THE VOICE OF THE RAIN

Hark! Hark! Ye call for me so long,
Many birds sing their weary song,
The grasses all wither and die,
Thirsty throats upon the mountains lie,
Even the ponds and the pools are dry,
Yet eager hearts go searching by.

Many a thousand folds stand by,
With dreaded eyes watch the blue sky;
All their crops, and herbs are drying,
All their cattle are also starving,
And the herdsmen in the sun-scorched lea,
Even call for some little me.

I’m coming by night, by day,
I am coming all through the way,
I’m coming o’er mountains and seas,
I am coming o’er plains and valleys,
I’m coming o’er forests and the lands,
I’m coming o’er the fields and sands.

I’m coming first in dewdrops,
So that new life give can thy crops;
I’m coming in downpour showers,
I am coming for all the callers,
I’m coming ‘pon the surface of Earth;
I come!  All creatures full of mirth.

I come, the clouds burst ‘sunder,
I come with lightning and thunder;
Welcome then the Lord of the Rain,
For He is once more with you again;
Now turn thine eyes to Earth and Heaven.
The great God thee rain has given.
