There I Stay

There lying on the shoreline was a shell

So pearly white and shaped just like a comb

Alas it tripped me so I slipped and fell

Into the ocean’s waves of raging foam

The tide moved out and on the sand I lay

Demoralized and flattened by a wave

I felt like I could let myself decay

Or have the water pull me to my grave

It was not possible to live my life

While knowing that I’d fallen on a shell

I’d rather stay and face eternal strife

Than have this be a story I would tell

So covered by the waves and sandy grain

There I lie and there I will remain
