This is a poem I wrote when I was 14 years old about Nelson Mandela who struck a chord with me from a very early age.

To unify the nation was the aim

Turning Human wrongs into Human Rights

‘Ceding his own freedom for civil gain

To earn the same for blacks as for the whites

The man confined, his cause was amplified

Worldwide his plight showed white dust on black skin

For twenty seven years his brothers died

Until his liberty, for all did win

Shouldered aloft as a lantern of peace

He guided the darkness out into light

As President he dANCed for their release

It embodied the end of their long fight

The South African people were now one.

Mandela, the true Rainbow Champion.
