It was one of the scariest times of my life. It was 1994 I was a young teenager about thirteen years old. I grew up in a dysfunctional family like most others, but my father was uniquely
different. He was a very large man that had tattoos all down his arms. He had muscles that could put most body builders to shame. I guess that’s why they called him superman. It most
modern terms my Dad would be called a gangster, who spent most of his life in prison.
During that time I was a young wild teenager who often got into trouble but this day I got in over my head. Without going into too much detail there was some people who wanted to hurt me real
bad. This day happened to be the day of their vengeance. As I was riding home from school that day I passed by their house. All I could hear is their screaming directed towards me
saying, “We are coming to get you.”
As I got home it wasn't too long until I seen 8 teenage boys with some bats and chains walking down my street. I knew I was in serious trouble yet for some reason I just stood there and waited.
They got closer and closer and my heart it began to beat out of my chest. Right at the point where I was just about to run, my father came barging out of the house. When He seen what was taking
place he began to run in the direction of those boys. He ripped of his shirt and began to yell. To my surprise those teenagers dropped their weapons and took off running as fast as they could. I
began to feel a calm and peace come over me knowing that I was safe.
I never felt scared again because I knew that I had a big daddy that would always protect me. While living with him I feared no one. Jesus once said “what father among you, when he son asks for
some bread would give him a stone. If you being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more does your Father in heaven. If I could rely on my earthly father for protection
and peace how much more could I rely on my Heavenly Father. Living with my natural father banished all my fears, even so my Heavenly Father can do way above what I could ever ask or think.
Because we have died with Christ we know that we will also live with Him. Now this is not talking about heaven, but about living with Him here on earth. The synonyms for this Greek word, “live
with,” are; union, together in companionship. This is actually the, “eternal purpose” of God; to be together with mankind both now and to the end of time. God desires to dwell with mankind. We
cry for a visitation from God, not understanding that He wants to move in. Because we are connected to Him, we can now experience the very quality of life he possesses. We also can live in peace
knowing that we have the biggest daddy.
I’m sure we have all heard the scripture, “he who has the son has life.” I would go even a step further and say, “he who has the Son has His life.” Andrew Murray wrote, “Christ is more then our
example, He is more then a part of our life; He is our life.” As we begin to live with Him, we begin to resemble Him. His mission becomes our mission and His love becomes our love. We
have the mind of Christ, and possibly even His heart. Because we live with Him Christ proclaims, “They are not of this world, just like I am not of this world.” Jesus proclaims, “What is true of
Me, is true of you, because you are in Me and I am in you. Just like the Father sends Me, so I send you, and the glory which the Father has given me, I have given you, because, the Father loves
you, as He loves Me.”
Paul wrote, “that He raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Because we live with Him, we also sit with Him. After Christ purged us from our sins,
the Bible proclaims that He sat down. The present tense reality is that we are seated there with Him. Christ being seated on the right hand of the Father implies a place of rest. We have been
raised to a new life so we can find rest in Christ and cease from our own works. Christ being seated, confirms the ultimate reality of the His finished work. We are seated with Christ, because,
we trust and rely upon that work.
We also occupy with Him and reign with Him. This is why John wrote, “as He is, so are we in this world.” He did not say that as, “He was,” so are we. Right now Christ is seated on His throne, and
is head over all principalities and powers and we are with Him. Now people either seem to be amazed or appalled by this truth. It seems too good to be true. We can’t seem to fathom that God wants
us to reign in life. It seems easier to believe that He wants us defeated, miserable, and depressed.
Those who decide to receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will begin to reign in life. What if we began to change our paradigm and actually began to believe the truth? Our
sinful nature is dead, we now have the nature of God and we sit with Him in heavenly places. We are righteous, we have His grace, and we can reign in life through the Lord Jesus Christ.
