My breath was ice cold, every breath revealed the white air in this cold...

My teeth chattering, my nose turned pink, my glove covered hands stuffed into my coat pockets for extra warmth...

My hat pulled down to cover my ears and a couple of pair of socks to keep my feet from freezing...

I stood there in this most coldest night of the year, with my eyes looking up at the towers clock watching it tick away until it would reach midnight and then Christmas would finally come.

Why I was standing there was to wait for the girl I love, I have not told her my feelings yet but I hope to before midnight. That is if she makes it here before then, I hope...

Couples walked past me smiling at one another while holding hands, even in this weather. I became envious of them, lowering my chin into my puffy scarf for extra warmth, and I continued to wait there until she would arrive...

All these people with their animal ears popping out looked over at me while they walked passed, well that can't be helped in this spirit world, everyone is an animal spirit. I glanced around once more noticing everyone was matched together, rabbit with rabbit, horse with horse and mouse with mouse. Maybe that was my problem? I never fell for a dog spirit like me, they were too much like me which I wasn't comfortable with for some reason.

"Jack!" My covered ears dropped out of my hat from that familiar voice, showing my floppy dog ears.

I turned my head, "Kim..." I was happy she came, just minutes before midnight.

"Sorry I am late...!" She finally reached me with her beautiful bright smile on her face and her... cat ears.

Cats and Dogs never are matched in this spirit world but I can't help it, even though she is a cat spirit, my feelings didn't change.

"Don't worry about it, I just got here myself..." I lied, I was actually standing here for more than a hour, but I know well enough not to say that.

"Oh~ That's good to hear, I'm glad!" She smiled brightly at me, just the thought that she is here with me, makes me fall for her even more, which I never expected myself, "...So what did you want to speak to me about?" She tilted her head slightly with a blank face on, how much she looked like a cat with those green eyes that stared at me.

*Cough*

I cleared my throat to get out of this daze from seeing her, "...Well...The thing is-" I finally started to say it.

*BANG!*

I was silenced out, it finally turned midnight, and the fireworks began to shoot up at the sky, silencing all sound.

"What was that?!" She shouted with all her might, trying to be heard over the fireworks.

I guess it is now or never, so I leaned in closer by her cute cat ears and worked up my courage, "I love you..." Oh how that made my young heart skip a beat, I felt the butterflies rampage in my stomach after saying it.

"..." She went quiet, I soon moved my head away from her to see her face.

"..." I was silent myself seeing her blushed face, or was that just because of the cold weather?

"I-I..." She seemed to be trying to say something but the fireworks canceled it out.

"...What is it?" I became nervous myself, I was scared but excited at the same time, wondering about her answer.

That moment, Kim moved closer to my floppy ears and lifted it up slightly with her hand to speak into them better, "Merry Christmas, boyfriend!" She shouted with all her might.

"..Boyfriend...?" It then came to me, I was instantly taken back and just smiled at her, "Merry Christmas!" My voice became loud, but it became even more embarrassing when I shouted it, just the moment the fireworks stopped. People began to look at me and Kim just laughed, "Are you OK seeing a dog spirit, though?" I wondered if she was really OK with it.

Kim lowered her head that moment and started to mumble under her cold iced breath, "..." In that instant she moved closer to me and pecked me on the cheek, "I'm sure..." She said cutely, and my hand touched my cheek completely amazed.

"...I-I'm happy to hear that!" I smiled at her, and with all my courage I stretched my hand out to hold hers, "Best Christmas present ever!"

Kim just nodded her head with a smile on her face looking happy herself. So, we just stood there in that cold holding hands, I guess it doesn't matter if we are so different, as long as we love each other then I guess I can have hope that this will last forever...

Merry Christmas!
