Another late night ditty

With each friend gained
A lover is lost
To make an advance
Would cause that friend to accost
So close at hand
Yet farther away
Never a chance
To make these feelings sway
Nothing to do
Yet so much to say
An impossibility
To keep these feelings at bay
Where does one end
And the other begin
How can you tell
The others feelings within
So much confusion
Not a whole lot of sense
Is it just whimsy?
My chest feels dense
A light in my life
A spark in the dark
A pinpoint of hope
In a life so stark
An unplesant clouding
Of all else around
No one else matters
I hear not a sound
My mind is alive
My wit is kept sharp
I let down my guard
And expose all but my heart
It comes to and end
No more by my side
My mind closes up
And I once again hide
My mind lies in wait
For the next time we meet
My body goes numb
My heart ceases to beat
