It wasn't the father's fault
He was a good man
You can't wonder why he was confused
For how could he understand?

He had a wife and a kid
A happy man was he
When he heard the news that his wife
Would have another baby

He and his wife talked to the first-born
About the baby who was to come
And they celebrated their victory
Thinking their battle was won

But soon after, they did find
What the woman's womb did hold
It was the baby they had dreamt of
But whose body was bitter cold.
