They were setting the table for breakfast trying to ignore to echoes vibrating through both of their minds of the sounds of what had happened of the night before. Janie
looked at her half brother Jordan. She knew by the look on his face he was thinking the same as her. Janie placed the spoons next to the bowls then plonked her slim form onto the red cushion to
wait for the cereal. Janie looked around cautiously, threw her cardigan to the floor and held her arm out to her brother.
‘This can happen again.’ she whispered as Jordan’s hazel eyes traced the black knots.
‘I know.’ he replied revealing his own.
‘This is the mark of them Jordan!’ the thirteen year old hissed.
‘I know.’ he repeated calmly.
‘This is going to put everyone in danger!’
‘How can you be so calm?’
Janie couldn’t hide her frustration, her beloved brother’s cool head drove her insane. They were in danger, everyone around them was at risk, but he kept himself calm
and acted like he couldn’t care less. Her blue eyes flared. His hazel eyes looked at her, an icy glaze over the top that had never been there at all before.
‘But they look all… odd and wrong. Your eyes, Jordan, they look... nasty.’
A snap of a twig outside made the siblings jump. Janie looked at her brother who was alert and already on his feet. ‘They’re here J.’ she said, stating the obvious.
‘Yes.’ he whispered doing a 360’ turn to face the window. He stood protectively in front of Janie
‘So this is it then? The final battle.’ Janie’s voice was barley a whisper.
‘Yes.’ came Jordan’s voice as the glass window smashed and black forms jumped through.
They came forward slightly, acting like drunken ballerinas. ‘Eternally forever!’ Janie whispered as her and her brother drew their swords and charged forwards.
