I get a chill, yet, it is not cold out here in the woods.  I check the map and I seem to be going the right way but I feel lost.  I feel a presence around me but cannot seem to figure it out.  After another ten minutes of walking through the dark trees I soon see flashing lights and various tents in which are all red and white…seemingly with a candy cane pattern.  I walk up to the black iron gate in which it simply says on a huge white sign with crimson blood color lettering, “Free to come and see the sights and hear the noises of the Chaos Carnival…we just want you to stay awhile”.  With a few seconds after reading a sound like a gunshot rings into my ear and then a green smoke surrounds me and I am blinded for a moment or two.  I get my sight after the smoke clears and then I am face-to-face with a strange looking man.  He had a long face and beady eyes.  “I am the Ringleader here, thanks for joining us Tony”, he says to me.  He wore a black top-hat and a white suit with blue polka-dots all over it.  He wore brown Scooby-Do slippers and had a mustache that curled at the ends.  Without another word he takes me through the carnival in which I thought was absolutely amazing.  Clowns, breathtaking roller coasters, children and grown-ups alike having smiles across their faces.  Game and food booths with cotton-candy and hot dogs, the smell of popcorn fill the air.  Clowns making balloon animals and giving them out as people walk by.

We get to the biggest tent and the Ringleader says, “We all felt Tony you should just go to the main attraction of this place.  We know you will love it”.  I go into the tent and I see I am the only one in it, but I still take a seat in the center of the aging bleachers.  Soon the place goes dark and a spotlight shines into the center ring and the Ringleader is there.  A microphone comes from above and settles right in front of his face. With a smile he grabs it and says, “My great gentleman I hope you enjoy the show.  It will be something that will go beyond your wildest dreams”.

With that said, firework of red, white, and blue blast into the air and a comedy routine is being done and it brings a smile to my lips.  Juggling and many tests of amazing skills are done such as balance and strength you can only see done at a carnival.  Then something strange happens.  An eerie red glow seems to fill the tent and The Ringleader once again is front and center with mic in hand.  With a twisted smile and a chuckle he says, “This is when things REALLY get going.  May I introduce the animal part of the show”.  I expect elephants or dogs or something like that, but they bring out alligators with spike collars and leashed with a chain.  The trainers and performers do odd and pointless things in which the alligators do not react to.  They stand there statues and cold.  Then all of a sudden they attack the performers in a quick flash.  I jump up to help the men, but a hand is put on my shoulder.  It was The Ringleader, “Oh no boy this is part of the show”, he says.  I sickly watch as the men get torn into chunks, watch their blood stain the ring floor, and I listen to the screams of agony and suffering.  Then once again the lights go out and complete silence surrounds me.  Those mere moments in the dark the only noise I could hear is my breathing.  It was so quiet I expected to hear my sweat drops hit the ground.  But soon the lights hit and the tent is filled with laughter and cheering as I see all of a sudden the place is packed with people.  They soon scream for more as two huge ramps were being placed across the ring from each other.  Between them a huge hoop was lit on fire.  On one of the ramps there was a man on a motorcycle preparing for a jump of faith through that very hoop.  The smell of the fire made me gag and remind me of the smell of sulfur.  The roar of the crowd is deafening as the motorcycle begins to fly down the ramp towards the jump.  But what happens next I know was to be.  The biker miscalculated the jump and he is soon engulfed in flames as he free falls and splatters on the ground below.  I cringe as the people around me applaud this.  Through the cheering I can hear the biker cry out in blood curling screams as he drags his burning body a few yards and finally stops moving.  I then notice both his legs were broken and the bone split through his very skin from the impact of the fall.  I then watch in horror as his skin begins to melt away and the smell of burning flesh brings me to puke.  I run, run from the damn tent not daring to look back.  But I soon realize the tent was my best option.

Clowns have seemed to grow up to ten feet tall with twisted faces and shining fangs form a smile on their faces.  One of them to my left makes a balloon animal, a dog, for a small kid and then pops it in which blood and guts explode out of it.  It cakes onto the kid’s face, but he does not seem to notice as he just looks at me and smiles with a joyful wave at that.  I see rides crashing killing and trapping people who cry for help.  I run even faster to the front gate to get the hell out of there.  I watch in disgust as people eat cotton candy that has maggots crawling in and out of it.  I look towards another ride and see an “OUT OF ORDER” sign.  I look up and see at the highest point of the ride people hanging with broken necks swaying in the wind and others struggling to keep a breath.  At a game both I see a man strapped to a spinning wheel as a kid throws knives at him, a dunking booth where I watch a man fall into the see-thru tank and eaten by sharks.  The water around him soon turns to blood and his thrashing about is soon done.  I watch as one of his arms just floats to the top of the water.

I run through this madness with these clowns chasing me, and psychotic laughter not far behind.  I am not 20 feet from the front gate when all of a sudden The Ringleader appears with a smile.  “Where do you think you are going my boy?  Like the sign says…just stay awhile”!!!  A deep laugh as loud as thunder comes from deep within him and I realize now I am stuck here just like the rest.

I slowly lose my madness as I am in the main tent once again unable to move because of some unholy force.  I am forced to watch constant carnage and blood-shed with each act performed in front of me.  The Ringleader sits right next to me with popcorn in hand and says, “I am glad you stayed Tony because you are the next performance”!!!
