The quietness of a hot dawn
seeps across a red plain.

Everything, including me,
warily waiting the sun.

Briefly the dawn smells here,

Earthy, red
strangely moist smell.

Before the sun blasts it away
into a dry, searing sky.

Sun's rays across the flat earth
tracks highlighted in fine red dirt.

Evidence of nocturnal traveling,
etched and interweaved
here and there.

Taunting the observer
about life
seemingly disappeared
into nothingness.

For now
at dawn

Nothing,
not
even
the
birds ....

disturb the silence.

We are all

(waiting).
