Alone

She sits in the cold as people pass her by,

smiling faces all around and inside she'll gently cry.

Another shiny pound coin is thrown her way,

she now has enough to live another day.

She doesn't have a job and has nowhere to live,

she has nobody to spend her lonely life with.

Her home is the streets, her bed is the floor,

a piece of cardboard is her front door.

People are scared of her, they think she's a crook,

they don't understand she's had a lot of bad luck.

They think it's her fault but that usn't true,

at one time she had a home just like me and you.

She survives on coffee and the odd piece of bread,

the money she gets has to feed another head.

If you look closely you'll see by her side,

there sits a little boy who's trying to hide.

Nobody cares that they've got nowhere to go,

they don't look at them twice as it starts to snow.

She takes hers son's hand and holds it tight,

as they prepare for another long, cold night.
