The fragility is a mystery

Of the delicate human life,

Until one has witnessed its end

To have gone through that strife;

One moment talking, laughing

Down the street they go along,

The next they’re taken,

A shock; an instance; gone.

A month, a year or two

Sometimes it is so slow,

Gradually fading, shrinking

In a sudden moment they go.

Your body swells with feeling

Hurt, anger, fear and grief,

How can someone so dear be gone?

How can a life be so brief?

Then you truly understand

As your eyes and heart weep,

That life is precious, delicate

It is a gift we must honour and keep.

They are not gone though

Although they aren’t here to see,

That is if you treasure them,

Then in your heart they will be.

Although it feels impossible

The hurt will slowly heal,

Then you can remember them fondly

And love is what you’ll feel.

For they do not want your tears

To look down and see pain,

Just to be remembered

And be smiled about once again.
