After the drop we started to make our way towards Lebanon with SGT Walker at the rifle point looking for al-arsir spotters and snipers. The surrounding area was vacant and neglected place the only buildings were mud huts that had once been inhabited by the local community before being drove out of the area by the al-arsir forces. As we carried on down road in the distance SGT Walker observed what looked like dust from a moving vehicle. We came to a halt and Stu handed Niall the enhanced view scope to spot if it was rebel scout.
‘Carry on but be careful’ he shouted so I put the Humvee back into gear and carried on.
In the rear Adam and Stu had disassembled their rifles and were dusting the barrels and all the other internals, we do this a lot to keep ourselves entertained when we are in the middle of nowhere and trying not to draw attention to ourselves.
Ahead I could still see the vehicle in the distance getting further away by the minute however you could still feel the tension in the car. ‘Get to cover!’ Niall shouted so as quick as possible we took cover behind a large boulder at the side of the road.
‘There’s a camp up ahead’ Niall indicated.
‘What’s the threat level, should we carry on or wait until night’
Niall took another look in the scope and then replied ‘there are 3 armed fighters and what looks to be a radio operator, let’s set up here and advice when it goes dark’
Adam and Stu had already begun unloading the shelter and all the supplies from out the vee’ and setting up a temporary camp until nightfall.
In our kitbags as well as the usual ammunition and sachets of food at base we had packed the night vision goggles, infrared scopes for our rifles and silencers, it was obvious tonight they would get their use. Where we had set up behind the boulder was a good vantage point because we could take it in turns to use the vee’ as a platform to keep our watch on the opposition stronghold.

It was my turn to be the scout so I gathered my hydration pack and sniper on the roof and got into the prone position so I had a good view on the camp.
the three armed fighters were placed around the radio operator looking out for any threat or situations they need to watch out for, they had no knowledge of us being here so it would be an advantage for us later to use the element of surprise. Suddenly I saw one of the rebels reaching behind a rock and pull out an RPG
‘guys were up against RPG’s repeat enemy has RPG’s.’
‘Ah crap that’s just made our job a lot more complicated’ ‘I hope you know how to use that thing’ Adam jokingly said.
‘You’ll find out later mate just you wait.’
It had already started getting dark now so we decided to pack the gear back into the vee’ and we would move on in half an hour.

go time

‘Keep year heads down, eyes open and any movement we have a go to open fire, go for the kill.’ You could tell by Niall’s voice this was going to be a big deal and lead would be flying.
‘let’s go green and move out and hold until I have eyes on you’ Adam, Stu and Niall moved closer towards the targets and I moved onto the roof of one of the deserted shacks. By this time we had our goggles on so we could see in the pitch black and the laser was more visible.
‘I’m in position go silent and wait for my go’
The enemy has called in four more fighters we were four men down and had alott of work to do. One of these included a sniper on the top of the ridge that I had luckily already spotted before. There were alott of radio chatter by the enemy about a possible vehicle behind a boulder when I realised it was ours.
‘Move up and hold until I give the mark to go loud’ the team moved up to within 500m of the enemy encampment and held until the mark was given. I had my eye on the sniper and could see he was about to make a move so I got the laser on target and with ten pounds of trigger pressure let of a shot that hit and finished the sniper.
‘one down, I repeat sniper down KIA’ ‘Its go time go loud and I will take out the RPG.’
‘ten-four we are go’
Adam let off a frag grenade that landed at the foot of the radio operator and caused the rebels to start shooting, I swung my aim over to the RPG and let off another shot.
‘2 hits RPG is down and out.’
The frag grenade blew up and took out 3 of the opposition fighters.
‘five down three more lets light them up’
SGT Walker advanced and shot one of the rebel fighters in the chest. ‘Good shot that’s a kill’
Adam let off another frag that finished off the last two fighters. It all went quiet after this the used bullets were glowing red on my infrared scope. ‘Well done lads lets rally up back at the vee.’ I had begun to make my way back down when Niall came over the radio ‘Stu has been hit! Repeat Stu has been hit and is bleeding heavy.’
I knew I had a Medi pack in my bag so I sprinted over to where my team were. ‘Hurry Mitch Stu is bleeding out’ Niall was balling …………
