WILL THE REAL PERSON PLEASE STAND UP?  Or please pass around the mask

People feel they know me. They don't.  How can they 'know me' when they have not spent a single day in my shoes.  They have not fought my battles nor seen the sights I have seen.  They have not heard the things I have, nor felt the things I felt and lived through.

But still 'they' think they know me. 'They' feel they have me 'taped'  and stuff me in their pigeon hole, having categorized me as this or that or something else. I so hate that!  I do not believe for one minute that I am alone in my feelings on this either.  We are not a herd of sheep, yet we are herded into these categories daily.

You need to no more than complete forms:

Name (Mr Mrs, Miss, Ms Other) - Age or date of birth.  Sex (m) (f)  (I always have this absolutely  irrisistible URGE to put in that one - 'not lately!'.  Then there is Height? Weight? BMI? Ethnicity.  Married/divorced/widowed etc; annual income (including partners/spouse or other income)  Amount of money outstanding in loans or lease/hp agreements/ employer's name and address, telephone number. doctor's telephone number and address. You get the drift here.  SO MUCH information about 'stuff' but nothing about the who you really are.

Then let's take family members.  Friends and co-workers.

Maybe your brother 'knew you' when you were living at home, but have you remained exactly the same all these years?  When did your brother or sister last see you anyhow?  Have you changed, did they change? The same goes with our friends. It depends on when we saw them last, how much time we have shared with them and so forth.  In a similar way - our friends at work (co-workers) cannot possibly know us, unless they also see us socially and really get to know who we are and where we are really coming from. Even then, there is still a lot they will never know about the real 'us'...... the 'me' inside of Vee, for example.

Of course, there are many other ways in which we are 'known'  and that is from what we look like.More tell-tale signs - clothes we wear, the car we drive, the job we do (or not) and whether we are unemployed/retired/disabled etc.Whether we are slim and fit, fat, and unhealthy (or fit) etc and also how we vote, whether we have a criminal record, have we paid out taxes, how we pray (or not) and whether we went to this school or that University.  Add to this - where we live (is it a 'good address?)

I once had a man buy a dog from me and he had the absolute audacity to tell me that he had checked my address with a certain company to see whether it was a good address!  Just hate that!

Just really makes one think doesn't it.  Oh yes and don't forget about the DNA on our passports or ID cards.  Biometric passports and so forth.  We are tested at the optician (eye doctor) and leave a nice little record there - we are tested at the dentist's surgery and leave another little reminder of 'who' we are there and also if we have ever been to hospital accident and emergency, well the information on us just keeps on increasing exponentially doesn't it?  Oh and have you ever had a speeding ticket or had to put your thumb print onto a card at the police station/department?

But it is really not a distinctive picture of who we truly ARE.

Maybe we can add in some more.

What about our names on Facebook, Booksie, Twitter, Youtube, Photobucket and all the other sites we reach at a click of a mouse? Also other sites we have visited and left our email address as we wanted a subscription for some information (they too have 'stuff' on us don't they?) All these people, all those profiles and companies we buy from, the banking-on-line we do - and one wonders EXACTLY who these people are, what makes them really tick.

Interests ARE a bit of a give away eh?  I mean, just read some of the interests and hobbies and you will get a pretty clear picture of what the person is 'into' but you still will NOT know them.  How can you? We have an inner face, and an outer face and we have a 'real' face, the one we often hide from the face we even consider ourselves to be!  No-one else has much chance of 'knowing exactly' who we are then do they?

Add in a photo (but come on, a little bit of messing around and you can create anything) with a computer!  Also the picture could be just  a photo collected from the internet, it need not necessarily be the person at all.  So what about icons/avatars - what do these tell you about the real person behind the name?  Are they shy and retiring? Flowery and romantic? Sexy and inviting? Arrogant and pushy? Spiritual and gentle? ARE THEY REALLY?

Obviously, one of the ways you can find out a little more about how the person ticks, is how they express themselves.  How do they come across?  Look in their profiles and in their comments, you will get a pretty decent picture of where they are coming from and how they express - BUT are they consistent in their approach?  That one is often the litmus test.

People cannot keep up a pretence for too long  :0)

I know that no-one will ever really know the real Vee - that is unless they spend real time with me. Even then, they cannot get inside of my mind, so how would they evaluate everything about me without access to my inner psyche?

Even family cannot know the whole person that I am, as they are busy with their lives and everything in it, (although they like to 'think' that they '*know* me) but they too cannot possibly know what it is like to be me, know me, the WHOLE ME and know how I feel, what I react to, how I express myself and  how,  generally speaking, I  live out my life on this planet that I share with them and my global family alongside of them :0) that is unless they could get inside of Vee at every level  but I do not see that about to happen.

Makes one think doesn't it.
