a snowflake lands... a snowflake melts... what happens in that moment in-between.

A New England Christmas Moment

by Gerard Lebel

A gentle and delicate snowflake makes a landing of icy cold softness, perching itself on the tip of my lash. Scarf and mittens of ecru alpaca, warm the tender neck and hands as frigid winds chap lips and cheeks.

Crowds of people bustling to and fro, carrying gifts of plenty, along with hopes and dreams for a brighter tomorrow. Snowcapped pine trees with intermittent twinkling lights and a holy manger scene, adorn the town commons.

As I now make a speedy dash home, I realize it is a classic Christmas moment in New England. Pure sparkling snow gently falling, creating a beautiful White Christmas and yet in an instant… before I can even bat an eyelash… that delicate snowflake has melted.

Cherish and enjoy these moments in life… they may never come again.
