Alone with Me

by Gerard Lebel

I have never been quite sure of who I am;
Caring in silence - loving on the lam.

Worry needlessly of giving my heart freely,
When feeling from within have never come easily.

Do I take these feelings beyond my own heart,
Not knowing where it will go - not knowing where to start.

Savoring my dreams, yet letting them have their quiet death;
Wondering what might have been with each labored breath.

And so I sail away with my wings broken now;
Trying harder than ever, this time, somehow.

I slap on my biggest smile and stroll through that door,
And giv’em more of me than I ever have before.

But what do I do when the night is all I see,
And where do I go when I’ve finally lost me.

One more for the road at last call I’ll try,
Then slip away silently with a tear in my eye.

I’ll begin again tomorrow… no pain… no woe.
I have never been quite sure of who I am, you know.
