Loving You

by Gerard Lebel

You are beautiful, my love.

Silver-white hair glistening in the sun,
Eyes of sparkling azure… lips and cheeks of natural rouge.
So many years have passed since first we met but
Years alone could never diminish the love for you in my heart.

I watch you rocking peacefully on the porch swing.
Your smile infuses my spirit with joy,
Enabling memories to lift me… lift me, soaring…
Soaring high above all the imperfections life delivers.

Reflections of yesteryear flood my soul, love.
That wonderful church picnic where we first met…
Our awkward first kiss behind the grandstand at school…
Our love developed from humble beginnings to overtures of grandness.

I know that the porch swing is empty now…
But you continue to live in my heart forevermore.
And that’s all I need… for it was never really you that made me strong…
It was loving you that did.
