The Greening of Spring

By Gerard Lebel

A

snippet of green is spotted emerging from the softening earth after a hard, winter’s freeze. A hyacinth, a tulip or daffodil perhaps, awakens from a long winter’s sleep… breaking ground through barricades of melting snow… reaching for the beaming warmth of the morning sun.

Broken

twigs and autumn leaves mixed with last summer’s spruce and pine mulch, pepper the raised flower beds.It is nearly time to begin clearing away the clutter that found a winter home nestled in the garden, so that new life and new hope can bring forth a brighter tomorrow.

As

the greening of spring inches forward despite the harsh cruelties of winter… so it is with love. The winter of one’s discontent may discourage the hope of spring eternal but while flowers reach for the sun and ocean tides for the moon… we shall reach together for the stars.
