Weathering the Storm

by Gerard Lebel

The delicate bouquet of spring lilacs fills the room,
Abundantly cascading a large Waterford vase.
Picked fresh this morn' before the sky showed its gloom,
Long before milady cared baring her face.

Descending the stairs on her wedding dream day,
She discovered the weather to be frightful.
With a garden ceremony on the tenth of May,
She had prayed it would be delightful.

The skies opened up and the heavens roared with thunder,
Raindrops slapping against the window pane.
Tap, tap, tap, she heard the droplets announce the blunder,
Of today’s glorious weather report, oh what a shame!

Dressedin white taffeta as the ceremony moved inside,
Avoiding the storm and the deluge of doom.
It was not the stormy weather for which she cried,
'Twas for no where to be found was the groom!
