Running Away
"My name is Alec. I won’t tell you my last name or where I’m from, but if I have time I can tell you why I'm here."
"This is my story."
It was a warm summer evening, my parents were fighting again, but then again they fight almost every day. Like any other fourteen year old boy I entertained the idea of running away, going off to live in the woods to live off the land. But unlike most of these boys I tried to do just that.
It was early summer, mid July, and I had been saving money from some odd jobs around the neighborhood. I had about one hundred dollars in a beat up old shoe box on the top shelf in my closet. This is the day I was going to run away.
Both of my parents were at work, they both worked day jobs, it was only two o’clock. I quickly scrawled a note and set it on the table. It only contained eight words. But it was enough.
I pedaled faster as I reached the end of our driveway, I still had a couple miles to go until I reached the train station. My plan was to take the five o'clock train to a little rural town, from there I would head into the nearest forest until I found a suitable place to unpack. I had only a few supplies with me, my tent, a hunting knife, my fathers bow, a lighter, and a survival book. I planned to live in the forest until I was eighteen, then I would get a job and a car. Then I could happily live my life.
As you may have guessed by now that isn't what happened. My parents called the police and they are searching for me now. I am running until I find somewhere to hide, once they call off the search I will finally have some peace. I don't want to go back home, I can't stand the bickering over money. I want to live a simpler life, where money isn't a necessity, and people don't mindlessly murder each other over forty dollars. I'm running out of money, I've been running for a month and a half now, I hope this ends soon.
I'm out of time now, the police are here and they are searching for me. To the person who finds this, "Wish me luck, I'm going to need it."
END
Thank you for reading my story, this is my first short story so if you have any suggestions to help me improve and become a better writer, remember, your opinion is valuble to me.
