The Importance of Footwear and Why It Matters

When someone gets dressed in the morning, what does that individual put on? Perhaps one is dressing for a job interview, or perhaps the individual is going for a morning jog. At any rate, every individual completes any outfit with the appropriate pair of shoes. Many tend to dismiss the importance of what they wear on their feet. As simple as the concept of footwear seems to be, it is actually a complex system designed to aid and improve multiple important aspects of our daily life. Orthopedic shoes improve our health, athletic shoes are designed to aid in performance, and work shoes are designed to help guarantee our financial success.

There are shoes designed specifically to improve an individual’s health. The human being is a fragile creature. It does not take much to damage the human body and health maintenance is a very important concept. Orthopedic shoes were designed to remedy certain foot-related health concerns. The footwear one chooses is actually very relevant to the status of their health. According to a website, many individuals suffer from some form of a debilitating chronic foot illness and/or severe swelling of the feet. This in turn can affect every part of one’s daily life, and may cause other issues such as sore legs and feet and back pain. Orthopedic shoes can be very expensive but with a prescription they may cost the wearer little or no money (orthotics). Unfortunately orthopedic shoes are not designed for style, but to resolve these painful issues and one should not let “style” become a deterrent from making healthy choices. The website explains that orthopedic shoes provide the wearer with the proper support on all areas of the foot and are designed to make walking less hurtful and damaging. They are also frequently built with sturdy ankle support that helps prevent the ankle from rolling easily. Orthopedic shoes also encourage blood flow and help to maintain foot swelling (orthotics). As individuals, our health should be a main focus, and orthopedic shoes were designed to improve on that focus. Chronic pain is a very serious problem and can seriously hinder one’s quality of life. One should seriously consider orthopedic shoes to help remedy any relevant pain.

Athleticism is an encouraged practice that helps maintain a healthy lifestyle and there are shoes specifically designed to aid in that practice. It is common knowledge that exercise is vital to the human condition. It, among other things, increases the body’s blood flow, gives the body energy, aids in digestion and keeps the lungs healthy. According to a website on the benefits of athletic shoes, poorly executed exercise and other athletic activities lessens the beneficial effects to the body. Athletic shoes are designed to enhance one’s experience by providing the wearer with precision control and balance (Winslow). With the right shoes, an average athlete may be able to drastically improve their performance. Unlike orthopedic shoes, athletic shoes seem to be geared more towards not only functionality but also style and this is most likely the reason that athletic shoes are more widely accepted in society. Many individuals understand the importance of exercize, but do not realize that some athletic activities are not always 100% beneficial to the body. Unfortunately some athletic activities such as running or heavy lifting, despite their positive affects, can be jarring to the body. The website explains that this is an issue that can also be improved upon with athletic shoes. To solve this issue, athletic shoes are designed to lessen the impact and to help the body absorb the least amount of shock possible. Overall, athletic shoes make the workout experience much more comfortable and enjoyable (Winslow).

Safety in the workplace has also become an important focus for the shoe industry. Money is the driving essence of humanity, and society is fueled by the need and desire for monetary success.  That success is achieved through determination, resilience and excellent work ethic. To afford the every day, the average person spends at least 40 hours a week in the workforce, and the majorits of those people are spending those 40 hours performing the heavy labor required to build or repair the world that they and the rest of society reside in. Heavy labor can takes a serious toll on the human body, so specific shoes have been designed to make the laborer’s work experience less abrasive to their health. According to a website on quality safety shoes, protective boots were designed with a steel toe to protect the foot from falling heavy equipment, and they possess the quality required to endure long hours (Alelsto). Those in the food service industry can purchase “non-slip” shoes designed to provide improved traction on slippery kitchen floors. With this improved traction, food servers are able to do their job more efficiently and without worrying about their safety in the process. “Non-slip” shoes have become a standard in the restaurant industry and corporations view “non-slip” shoes as an insurance policy against law suits due to normally unsafe working conditions. The website sums up that safety shoes enable a job to be done more proficiently by eliminating some of the stress and distractions that unsafe conditions cause in the workforce (Alelsto).

An individual’s feet carry their bodies through this world and are much more important than those wearing them may realize. The choice of what footwear one utilizes is a vital one that they need to take more seriously. Sometimes the seemingly insignificant choices can affect an individual’s life the most. What shoes one puts on their feet can affect how they live and how they perform the tasks in their everyday life. The shoe industry has provided solutions to everyday issues such as work ethic, athletic performance and health. Footwear is something society takes for granted, but realistically speaking, the concept of footwear is an example of the ingenuity of the human mind and how wonderfully in-depth and well thought out even the simplest of things can be.
