Just Friends, Nothing Else

This April evening, teacher Cheryl Morgan is having fun with her two nephews, Stephen and Jeffrey. The three are enjoying every minute of a new hilarious board game, Dirty Laundry. The goal is, you have to get rid of your huge pile of laundry because you have company coming. If you're lucky, you will pick a card for the washing machine but a limited amount. Cheryl truly likes this exciting game, she has played it before with her apartment friends. Cheryl is very happy to see cousin Lindsay who just couldn't wait to show off her beautiful engagement ring. Lindsay and fiancee Ryan are lovingly thrilled. All the family adores sweet, terrific Ryan Huntley. At the Morgan home, everyone here feels delighted, it's Aunt Tracy's seventy fifith birthday and it's terrific being with family.

Now, the phone rings and Cheryl's dad answers it. He then calls out. "Cheryl, it's for you, it's Greg."  Cheryl has a big, lovely smile, she has been waiting to hear from best friend Greg Taylor. Cheryl and Greg met at a charity auction for antiques. Greg is a legal assistant and he has applied to a popular law firm in Richmond City, an hour and half away. Now, Cheryl has the phone, she is anxious to hear his voice. "Hi Greg, so, did you hear anything?"  "Hello Cheryl, no word about the job, maybe tomorrow. I had to stay late at the office, one little spelling mistake can be tiresome. Oh, wanted to tell you that the whole family are all going out to the country cabin tomorrow, our neighbors, the Sheldons anniversary party. Dan and Margaret and newborn baby Amanda will be there too! You did mention how anxious you are to see Amanda. So, want to meet me later at, Graham's Coffee  how about after eight. They now have music."Cheryl likes this. "Oh sounds great!! Well, I'm playing Dirty Laundry with my sweet nephews, almost finished the game. So, I'll meet you there as soon as I can." Afterwards, Cheryl's mother gets close. "By the look on your face, Greg must have told you great news, did he get that job?"  Cheryl quickly sighs, "No word yet about that. But he did invite me to a party tomorrow at their country cabin in Lake Hatfield. I'm excited, I will get to see little baby Amanda! She is four and half weeks weeks old. I'm going to meet Greg for a coffee soon."  She looks content.

Now, Aunt Sadie has heard what Cheryl said. She taps her arm. "Cheryl, did you say you're going to Lake Hatfield, well I my friend from bowling is buying land out there, I heard it's so beautiful! Ah, you're leaving soon, I would love a drive to see someone at the hospital, he is pretty special."  Cheryl is all smiles.  "Sure, I'll take you Aunt Sadie."  Now, Aunt Violet comes over, she has been happily drinking. "Oh sweet pretty Cheryl, your mom said you have been spending a lot of time after work with a Greg Taylor.  It sounds serious, shouldn't we all get to meet this fellow?"  She then comically hiccups. Cheryl grins. "Well Aunt Violet, let me tell you this, we are just friends, nothing else. Sorry."   Now, Aunt Violet groans as she reaches for a cheese, pickle and ham cracker. "Oh what a shame, I like hearing about cute sweethearts sharing their love. Ah, I do miss my darling Harry. He loved singing, dancing at parties!"  She now takes more cheese snacks. Cheryl can't help thinking how lost Violet has been without her husband Harry who passed away close to four years now.

Later, Cheryl and Aunt Sadie are in the car. "So, your parents say you have a sweet charming friend, Greg, is it? You know, friends make lovely boyfriends too!!"Cheryl chuckles."Yes Greg Taylor, he is adorable, very easy going and I enjoy spending time with him. Well, we both had our hearts broken at one time and having a friend is reliable, just to talk, hang out with, friends are very precious!  Ah, we made a pact that we will always be good friends, nothing will change that."  Cheryl now makes a left turn, Sadie happily grins.  "Sounds lovely! But things happen, you have to realize that the way you talk about this fellow, it's easy to see, you are totally smitten with him, really! So, would you like some butterscotch candy?"  Cheryl looks happy. "Oh, I love them, thanks!"  After, they contentedly listen to some Christmas music on the radio. Cheryl thinks about Greg and she now wonders how much she does like him. She goes on thinking. They had a lovely Wednesday evening at the movies and then fantastic Chinese food.  She certainly likes the Christmas gifts Greg gave, cute teddy bear, pretty cap, scarf, gloves that she is wearing now. It's her favorite colours, dark pink and mauve.  Now, Cheryl pictures Greg doing magic with a folded piece of paper and later, he covers it with a blue cloth then the paper is gone but he pulls out a silk bouquet of flowers. He is so terrific at it.

While driving, time surely went fast and soon Aunt Sadie arrived at her friend's place. She will stay overnight and Sadie's daughter will come in the morning. Now, Cheryl just has to take a short route across a bridge and close to the lake. When she finally got to the cabin, she is so relieved to see Greg's car parked.  At the doorway, Greg's family warmly greets, it's pretty special. Greg's mom, Louise has a big radiant smile. "Oh hello Cheryl, so great to see you again! I have those cherry squares you said you love and your favorite eggnog!"  Cheryl feels honored, "Thank you so much, that is very sweet!" Now, Greg notices Cheryl. "I'm glad you're here, you can help me put together,  the new light up carolers piece near the fireplace." "Sure, can't wait!"  Just seeing Greg's lovely smile is true comfort.  It's very nice here, brightly decorated and warm cozy. Cheryl will probably stay the night, she loves their reclining sofa by the fireplace.

The best, memorable part of this evening happened to be seeing and holding darling baby Amanda. That heartwarming moment will preciously remain in Cheryl's heart forever. She adored Amanda's tiny happy smile, cute tender yawn and sleeping so peacefully in Cheryl's arms. This truly was the star on the Christmas tree, very bright and beautiful. "Oh, those awesome memories when my nephews were newborn infants, it comes back with warm satisfying thrills!"  Cheryl definitely would love to be married and be a mother someday, she hopes her wish will lovingly come true. For now, she is grateful to take pictures of adorable baby Amanda.

Now, at the Lewis hill, bundled up Cheryl is enjoying herself,  this is a perfect evening for sledding. Young and old are having an awesome time going down this cool hill. Cheryl eagerly tackled the blue plastic carpet which can go very fast. Greg wasn't interested in the carpet as he persuades Cheryl to ride in the front of his toboggan.  She is anxious to go down the hill with Greg. This surely looks comfy and Greg is all smiles as he puts his arms around Cheryl. She feels safe and warm. "Ready Cheryl?"  She giggles.  "Oh, I'm ready, let's go!!"  And what a thrill to go speedy and feeling the hard bumps of snow, ice. They laugh, scream and then close to the end of the hill, they suddenly hit a chunk of ice, they go flying onto the snow. It's pretty funny but a little sore too. Someone should take their picture, they lie on their backs laughing, awfully cute. Now, Greg slowly crawls where Cheryl landed. The laughing is such a genuine pleasure, Cheryl feels like a kid again. Greg is excited. "Wow, that was fantastic!! We were going so fast,  then we crashed with a crazy bump!"  Greg is lying next to her, she wonderfully giggles. This is very playful, glittery joyous moment. Now, the laughing stops, they both stare at each other. Greg suddenly makes a move to kiss her softly. This kiss surely made everything stop, a beautiful silence.  After, smiling Cheryl looks puzzled. "Oh gosh, I didn't expect that but it definitely felt very nice."  Greg sits up and so does Cheryl.  "You don't know how much I wanted to do that, I kept holding back. Now, I have to tell you, Cheryl Emily Ann Morgan, I have fallen in love with you and I just couldn't wait to let go my feelings this evening. If I get that job, I want you to be there with me in Richmond City. You are very important in my life, you're my sweet dearest true love!"  Now, Cheryl gladly sighs, she is smiling from ear to ear. This is amazing news. "Gregory Wallace Taylor, I love you too, I think I always did but I kept thinking of that pact, silly us. This is a wonderful magical night, gorgeous moon shining, yes, I can feel the tingly magic, not going to question it but just enjoy. I hope you get that job and both of us will handle Richmond City together. Ah, I think we should kiss again, it's sooooooooo lovely, exciting!"  She softly giggles. Greg smiles as they kiss a little longer. All of a sudden, Greg's Aunt Tracy is nearby pulling a toboggan. She sees them huddled together on the snow. "Ah, Greg, Cheryl, are you two alright?" They stop kissing, Greg chuckles. "Hi Aunt Tracy, we're fine, very happy!"  She is about to turn. "Okay."  Aunt Tracy now walks away, she mumbles to herself, "Just friends, nothing else, oh funny, who are they fooling?"
