We had  already known that our profession as a teacher is the noblest profession of all. I personally find it hard the complete denotation meaning of the word noble, because I myself have been always reflecting on its different connotation meanings, and finally come up with only one word – a Christian teacher.

I call myself teacher by profession, graduated with the Degree of Bachelor in Secondary Education, struggled for tons of papers, perspiring exam, limited allowance along with poverty related situations, but finally I made it. And yet, I still keep on reflecting if I really meant to be a teacher. A tiny voice from my heart answers me “I didn’t mean to be a teacher but I was called by God to be a teacher and it’s my vocation. So I believed that we, teachers are called by God to be this kind of profession.

Teacher by profession can be easily complied with. Lesson planning, preparing instructional materials, attending meetings, continues trainings and seminars, innovative teaching strategies, classroom management etc. All of these are only the routinary activities that normally a teacher must do and accomplish. Sometimes those are the bases of competency rating of an individual teacher. It’s really very true that tangible proof of evidences are necessary for us to rate our competencies that even sometimes we think that it’s not compensated. But then again, those are still a part of being a noble profession as a teacher.

However, I found myself constantly pondering the question: Isn’t it better if I can add another connotative meaning from the word teacher? That is a CHRISTIAN teacher, “whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly, working for the Lord and not for human” (Colosas 3:23). It’s a bible verse that best describes a Christian teacher. We can still do our tasks as a noble teacher, but this time with CHRIST as a center of our profession. Thus, SMART  (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time bound) lesson planning will become SMARTS , S- stands for Spiritual, that means spiritual-related topic must be always integrated in the subject – matter, Biblical-based instructional materials  instead of simply instructional materials, meetings and gatherings  guided by the biblical basis,  “where two or more are gathered in My Name I am in the midst of them”  (Matthew 18:20), trainings and seminars attended  not only for professional growth but also  it must be for spiritual growth, Teaching-Faith-Learning Process where faith in God is in the middle and imposing Christian Discipline  among students as how Christ loved one another even the most hatred individual.

There are a lot of inevitable things that may possible happen while performing our tasks as a teacher; challenges, toilsome works, competitions and some incomprehensible circumstances. We can overcome all of these, by just simply applying in our lives a simple formula: Christian + Teacher = A Holy Noble Profession.

A Christian Teacher – if it will only be happened, a noble profession will become a Holy Noble Profession because “God did not call us to be impure. But to live a holy life” (Thessalonians 4:7)

“You have faith and I have good deeds; show me your faith apart from actions and I, for my part, will show you my faith in the way I act “ (James 2:18). So it is a must for us dear teachers to instill in our hearts and minds that having faith and good deeds are inseparable and it’s a part of our spiritual journey for us to qualify and be promoted by our only one superior – the Almighty God.

Consequently, we must keep on reminding ourselves that all of our accomplishments would not only be based here on earth, but also be brought there in heaven.
