Over tin roof, tangled kite
asphixiated. Striated blue skies,
betwixt looming black cables
overhead, a lone vulture careens.
Young hustlers, still suckling mom
barricade off-ramp, beating
sticks held menacingly.
A threat in exchange for change.
Brightly lit floats bedecked
with healthy, ripe rumps
emblazend, glitter and sequince,
engross the talc-laced eyes of the crowd.
Three days till Lent.
