Stumbling over sticks and stones
each obstacle blindly overcome.
Each goal unknowingly thwarted
by ambition with no direction
injury is inevitable.
Frustrated by lack of passion
stifled by apathy
shifted into neutral,
idling in staccato sobs.
Curse this vulnerable flesh
tissue thin, easily pierced by unspoken words.
Silent utterings fill the air,
spelling out their conclusion.
Invisible threats linger in thought bubbles
plotting their escape through clenched teeth
and pursed lips.
The atmosphere is so tense,
on the brink of herniation,
one final gasp, inhale.
Trembling lips cling to the release,
as the chest heaves, the ribs depress
diaphragm contracted.
Prepare for what you don’t want to hear.
