The last time that I saw him he was beaming
Open arms, open heart and warm smile
In we go and slide into rocking chairs
Goodbye
When I last saw his face he was smiling his goodbyes
We drove down to the airport
Lifted off, high above the world
Goodbye
Baseball cards and candy jars
The gray flecks of your hair, what did you care
With age comes understanding
Goodbye
I can tell by the shine in your eye
Intelligence way beyond me
Making waves and laughter
Goodbye
Clever wit, an age old trick
These days no one seems to recognize
And I am left alone with my voice
Goodbye
Could they tell by your skin what you’ve done
Do they have any idea
I know who you are, I remember you
Goodbye
I see the youth in your bright eyes
I see the knowledge
I just wish you still saw me
Goodbye
I never said goodbye
