Like a star, you were way past burning out
But my eyes were mesmerized by your lingering soft glow
Caught up in the sparkle and shine
But it was old light deception
You were blazing so beautifully, so brightly
I was caught in a luminous trance with a twinkle in my eye
That light; my trust, my faith, my only hope
As I admired you; so brave and bold,
I ignored tiny smoke rings and that your light began to fade
There it was, old light deception
My heart was saying yes, it’s true!
But science told me no
You’d burnt out so long ago
