My sister is an artist
She sketches beauty
She is soft as the shadows she shades
She is rough as the first lines
I am not her eraser
My sister is an artist
Her head sits on her shoulders
Solid as David’s
She is modest as Mona Lisa
I am not her painter’s pallet
My sister is an artist
She moves like a Monet
And speaks like a Dali
More beautiful than a Renoir
The shade of her eyes
Is somewhere in the Starry Night sky
Swirling, mysterious
I could stare for hours
Attempting to piece together
The mystery and meaning
Of the corners of her face
Of the gentle wave in her hair
Of that sarcastic smirk
Of the way she speaks
And still
She is an unknown
I’ve heard rumors and interpretations
Of what my sister really is
And what she really means
Maybe she is flawless
Maybe she is alone
Maybe she is graffiti on a bathroom stall
I don’t know who’s to say
If they are right or wrong
Except my sister
My sister, the artist
But she can’t hear them
She’s in her room
Splattering paint on the walls
Carving new creations
And drawing a masterpiece
My sister is an artist
