A Captive for Eternity

It was the midnight of my dreams, the winter of my powers,

Locked within the impenetrable silence of the void, I screamed!

Yet none heard my inner agony of soul.

Deep within the obsidian cave of my imprisonment, I lamented.

‘Oh how the mighty have fallen,’ I, Merlin, reduced to thus!

Destroyer of dragons, kingmaker, lord of powers unknown to mortal man

Trapped, bound within a spell I could not change, and all for the love of a woman.

Only the ever present clouds of my memories to keep me company,

Each bringing sorrow, pain, remorse, a relentless torture of the soul, endless, eternal!

Love, was it worth it I ask myself?

But at times as I remember her eyes, deep, enticing, mesmerising, ah yes!

Her voice, like that of the nightingale, and her form so divine,

Then yes! A thousand times yes! Oh, fool that I be!

Those few precious moments in my life brought me something I’d never experienced.

And so I sit within my tomb, a captive betwixt the veils of time.
