A Gift of Love

A woman fair as yet unborn, would soon cry forth with joy,
She’d burst on through and fill the air with cries of joy and life,

A girl not royal! Like any girl! Not rich or great in fame,
Yet one whose life was touched by love and so she lived as such,

This girl she knew that love was truth and so she lived that truth,
When love in turn did touch her heart she wed and bore a child,

Her husband not a special one, not bold nor young like some,
A simple man, a noble man, an honest man, was he,

He tried to live a simple life and struggled long within,
Her son she loved and spoke to him the words of love and truth,

And so one day she knew he’d stand, stand strong in love and power,
She died so young and many mourned she was not great in wealth,

No governments, no lands to rule, no riches, fame or power,
No media sang her praise to all no plaques or banners seen,

Yet in her life she lived the truth, she shared her love with all,
No passing stranger empty left; no sick were turned away,

Her child grew in love and truth, her sample he retained,
In darkened times he oft would see her sample shinning through,

So do not decry the little things, do not refuse to love,
Love oft will work in little ways and wonders will perform,

A wife so true with loving hands she cares and tends her mate,
A mother strong and filled with love to guide and lead the way,

A sock to darn, a dish to wash, a floor to clean and mop,
A meal to cook, a child to teach, these things love gives to you,

A nurse, a doctor, teacher, all, a business she may run,
It’s not the job at home or not that makes the soul within,

Look not on these as things mundane, despise thou not life’s tasks,
That child you rock may change the world, that life’s a gift of love’
