Another Dismal Rainy Day
I cursed myself for this shortcut it was but a muddy bog,
Another melancholy day, I sighed as on I marched.
I walked along in pouring rain embraced by autumn’s chill,
Dismal thoughts did cloud my mind I wearily trudged on.
All around me trapping me within their daunting throng,
Rows and rows of barren trees all decked in moss and mold.
The low dark clouds, the constant drizzle, just added to my mood,
My imagination took to flight, the trees to creatures morphed.
What if this narrow winding way, led to worlds in Middle Earth?
Thunder rolled, the wind it howled, I walked along alone.
What if some wizard sat within his ancient tower of stone,
What if some mage with magic spell, sought but to entrap me.
I shivered and I looked around! My furtive gaze half crazed!
The rain did stop! The sun broke through! Light shone upon the trees!
The vision in my mind did change! Transformed before my eyes!
No longer ghoulish evil things but emerald pillars tall.
Joy and happiness filled my soul! My spirit soared above!
Only moments earlier I had hurried on.
I now imagined young fairies; they’re decked with floral wreaths,
Laughing, dancing, carefree all, while smiling elves did play.
Enchanted instruments, magic lights, songs of nature’s joys,
Love and light and flowers gay a paradise on earth.
What caused this mental transformation, what caused perceptions shift?
The trees were still the same old trees they had not really changed.
The difference was the Light that shone! It changed how I perceived!
