Collateral Damage

Caught in the morass of human debris I sink beneath its mud
Under the weight of the chains of so called human rights I am immobilised
Imprisoned in the regulations and rules that bind rather than free I lie captive
Dying for the wrongs of others, unheard, unsung, alone I lie
Carnage unleashed, legalised murder, sanctioned slaughter of the innocents
The rubbers stamp of approval washes away their shame
The one sided media coverage eases their dulled desensitised conscience
Like Nelson they turn the glass to their blind eye seeing nothing
Yet the blood waters the ground, the rotting carcases of human flesh but manure
There are no winner only those who line their pockets at the expense of the innocent
The dust, sweat and grime mingle with the blood and cake my aching flesh
The pain within my soul far outweighs the agonies of mortal flesh
I see the clouds of bombs a smiling laughing skull
Death has come to embrace me, while the politicians shake hands
They smile and share pretty words, and all the while unseen the innocent do die
Who am I? Why I am just collateral damage!
