From the Shadows
I cowered in the shadows
Fear my face had blanched
The howling wind describes my life
My life seems but a dream
The bitter taste of failure stung
In all I ever did
A life of useless consequence
I wish it were a dream
Tomorrow I will wake again
The tears stain my face
The past I cannot undo now
The future I must face
Anguish fills my heart with dread
I feel I’m so alone
I walk the path with measured tread
Through the mists of time
I take the cup of sorrow now
I quaff its’ bitter drought
What waits around the corner now?
It fills my heart with dread
Then in the darkness of my cell
A breeze came from nowhere
‘Twas then I saw a flickering light
A tiny pinhole beam
Within its path the diamonds danced
So beauteous to behold
As in and out the dust did fly
Picked from the dirt below
Transformed in majesty I saw
By this ray of light
A speck of dust - to come alive
And dance in splendours light
Could I so rise from out the mire?
Could I dance in the light?
A gust of wind - a breath of life
The end need not come yet!
