I lived a life of darkness; I lived in halls of steel,
My heart was made of solid rock; I felt not pain or love.
I drank I fought I wandered free, no one could withstand me,
For pleasure used I many a girl yet loved I not a one.
I drank, I laughed, I fought and wooed, I bent the knee to none,
A wild and wayward soul I was until I saw Yvette.
Her every way was soft and nice, her eyes so deep and dark,
So dark and bright an Even’ Star her lips so deep and red.
She came with heart so filled with love she saw so deep inside,
Yet I a soul so dark and stained what hope had I for her.
With sin and blood upon my soul how could I attain such?
So to despair I then did fall, it clouded all my soul.
Then came a spark of loves pure light to cleanse my weary heart,
In front me sweet Yvette stood a smile within her eyes.
‘I see a light within thy eye’ she said in words so kind,
‘Come join with me and change your way’ and so I walked with her.
That day I left behind the past, the man I knew so well,
A man so distant now it seems but just a dream to me.
A distant vision long now passed my life did change that day,
That blessed day so fair and bright love came down to me.
She drew me from the pit to light;
She cleansed my heart with love,
And so I am another man I walk with sweet Yvette,
Along the shores of life we tread our hearts are bound in love.
