Britain is at War with America and when a group of American seamen are captured during a fierce battle with a British ship in 1814, and following the transportation to the notorious Dartmoor prison in southwest England, their lives change forever.

Nothing can prepare them for what lies ahead. Confined to a granite jail in the harshest conditions imaginable, many freeze to death while hundreds die from the pox and the intolerable treatment meted out by the militia.

Following the end of the war, expectations of an early release are dashed and as tempers reach boiling point, a revolt and an attempted mass escape fail. The tension builds until on the fateful evening of 6 April 1815, a massacre of the American prisoners takes place.
