I stood at the steps of the monstrous asylum. Three stories high and stretched out wide. Ithadn't beenin action since 1937, but the patients were still there and we all knew it. I guess I'm kind of stupid for listening to my friends, but I never turn down a dare. All I have to do is stay inside the house for five minutes and I can leave. I thought of the bloody gruesome stories that surrounded this mansion of an Asylum. I shivered in the crisp winter air and took my first step towards it.

I was on the front porch reachinggradually forthe knob when it all started. There was a creaking and the door slowly opened, as if inviting me in. I was having major second thoughts. In a movie this is where I scream at the character not to go in, but they do anyways. And I now understand why. I stepped inside and the atmosphere instantly changed. It was electric and my hair stood on ends. I could see my breath swirling into odd patterns as if moving around something.

I walked forwards and the floorboards creaked and moaned beneath my feet. It was completely dark and I couldn't see anything. I tried to speak, but no words came out because of my fear. I could hear the footsteps moving up beside me, but I couldn't move. I felt a hand on my shoulder and then a face near mine. An eerie, deafening scream lit out into my ear, and then disappeared leaving my ears ringing. It echoed repetitively in my mind, it was so chilling.

Suddenly the lights came on. I was standing in a long hallway that seemed to never end. Bursts of cold air were hitting me with might, until they knocked me off my feet. I was pinned. I struggled and squirmed. I tried to scream but my voice seemed to be gone. I heard the front door begin open and slam repeatedly and the hall lights began to dim, and then flicker back on. Everything around me was moving and flying across the room. I felt sharp burning pains raking down my stomach.

My mouth widened in a scream, but still no noise. My shirt was being soaked with my own blood and tears were running down my face. Suddenly the pressure came off me and I leapt to my feet. I looked for somewhere to run, but everything had blackened around me, except one straight lighted path in front of me. The lights sere flickering and a black figure was standing at the end. He was moving towards me, but he wasn't walking. Just floating.

As he came closer I saw his face. At first it was normal, but it soon twisted into an ugly, bloody mass. It was unrecognizable as human, which I doubt he was. I stumbled back into the darkness as he raised his fist. I fell backwards, but instead of hitting the ground I continued to fall. Into a black pit of ever winding fate. I could hear laughs and voices all around me, "Now she will join us. Be us, live with us. She's ours." I still couldn't make a single noise even though I wanted to scream and cry. I was beyond being scared.

My eyes closed and then slowly opened to a blinding light. I felt myself hit something very soft. My eyes burned with the new found light. The walls were white, and so were the floor, the bed, and the cabinets. It was world of soft white. My emotions slowly changed but my mind still raced. I eased down, because I knew it was all mine. A young lady in a white dress walked in. "Good morning Reese. How are you?" She was smiling and her head was cocked sideways. She seemed frozen. I looked at the one item on the wall. A calendar. I read it out loud.

"December 13, 1937." I knew this was the year that the asylum would burn and kill everyone inside. It would close forever. Because of me
