I blew the stars out of the sky

I picked up a few with shaky hands

stinging my fingers with every little one

found two small stars that sparkle like diamonds

I sprinkle the rest back into the night

they are scattered unevenly

forming the world’s constellations

performing their illuminating trick

I glide into the clouds where my love lay dreaming

I pry her lips open and drop the two stars inside

She swallows them down with a sting to the tongue

the two sparkling eyes

My precious infant shall have
