There are worse things in life but this was an influential one in mine.

I still want to cry when I see a kid with his dad.
Learning to throw a baseball, he looks so glad.
I learned that from my grandpa, since you weren't around.
I learned how to catch a ball coming up off the ground.
These things are something that a dad should be there for.
I just wish you hadn't made the decision to close that door.
There are so many things that we could have done.
Learning to read and write and spell, you missed a ton.
You flew me out to see you once or twice a year.
There are so many times I wanted you to be near.
Then you decided to move even further away.
I grew up and more than once have been lead astray.
Sometimes we have to fall and pick ourselves up.
No father's hand reaches down for this wolf pup.
We all have regrets and pain and sorrows.
But in our future we have many tomorrows.
I can't dwell on the pains of the past.
I will no longer worry about being last.
Last in your life, last in your love.
That baseball will inevitably find my glove.
No thanks to you and your selfish ways.
I will win this game of life, I will amaze
Even you with your bang-up job and your raise.
I will find the means to be happy in this life or the next.
If I ever have a son, I promise I will not be vexed.
Vexed by the idea of being a part of the little things.
I will be there and enjoy all the moments his life brings.
