I

A father is a man, who loves with his heart

Yet shows it not,

Well not as a mother does

He carries his love and pain in equal measure

With such unbridled passion and strength

II

As he holds back on expression of feeling,

He is further divided from those he loves,

An ever widening chasm,

Which asks the questions why and can it be crossed

III

This chasm is widest between fathers and sons,

For this battle of wills begins, not from birth

Yet from what both view, as the question

What makes a man, a man?

IV

Once asked it can easily be answered,

For as is the way of life

The son becomes the father and the whole thing begins again.
