Another Winter Midnight…

Sweet dreams await me huddled beneath the sheets

With all their subtle designs to torment my night

But quietly I rush out as I hear his longing voice

Through ebon sinister darkness to be his sable bride…

I run, I run on velvet clovers

As stars pour forth their radiant wine

I hear the strains “Love you are mine.”

With angel’s lutes and beats divine.

At last I find him on a flowery meadow

-a spread on hoary, graying earth-

Ah! My dear Muses’ darling! How my heart melts to see..

Heaven’s songs circling him in their purest ecstasy.

….and my own dreams glisten in his deep wistful eyes

-Wherever I go there is no escape-

So I sit by him mesmerized… resting my elbows on back of time.
