Well, long time after this is not a love poem except the first stanza, the rest deals with my personal weaknesses that i detest and totally annoyed about..

\"\"

My eyes are still red with tears,

While you sleep like a mighty lion

Hugging the aura of your own brilliance.

And that makes me think

Perhaps because the heart knows all along

The THINGS we try to convince ourselves

Or unconvince- as the time demands

The FACTS we prove to the whole world

But cant prove to our own hearts.

And yet tears are shed, sacrifices are made

Voices are lowered when the truth is spoken

Not for some great ideal, not for some huge reason

But to keep swimming in our social pool

Or just to sit waist deep in its shallow parts.

yeah! you know what an ecstacy it is to shatter some useless but deep rooted social code... it is an absolute pleasure, an incomparable thrill to slap hard the shameless face of society that tries to take the place of individual's conscience.

OMG i am still tooo angry (calm down, yess) Thank you so much dear for the feedback :)

Hi Ruby! I'm interested in the symbolism of the lion (as I'm a Leo). Could it be the lion symbolizes the embodiment of organizations that claim to know all the things and facts? What you've said here resonates with me. I've convinced myself of so much, only to have unconvinced myself of it later. I've read and heard so many facts, that remain untrue in my heart too. Perhaps my heart knew that all along. Hmmm, the social pool. I can think of many examples I've seen like that. You've really got me thinking with this one Ruby!

Oh Jimmy, your comments are always so interesting and insightful. You are a Leo, nice to meet you, i am a sagi and interestingly all my best friends have been leos so far with even their names beginning with M etc :) But anyway i am greatly in love with the exception to the rule.

Well, calling someone a lion is a compliment, it is one of the best compliments i use for the superiors of humanity... so when my lion is asleep, i have time to ponder on other things too,.. hmm (personal, eh?)

Well, the powerful organisations are more like alligators actually, sitting like a mossy log with pale eyes glittering on the surface of the water, like bureaucracy always knows everything of relevance (sorry, i have a big soft corner for bcracy, being one of that hated lot) and then there are universities who think they know everything but actually know nothing beyond arrogant jargon.

Well rambling apart, the poem is about society, its hollow and shallow aspects and the pretense to power where there is none. The thing is: My conscience is more significant and wise guide for my decisions than the pitter patter of society.. i refuse to be their tadpole or average lazy hippo.

Because lions are never conformists, i reserve my admiration for them.

I think my reply has grown as big as an article.. Thanks Jimmie for raising storm in my brain.. i really like this kind of spur :)

I read this over a few times. Looked and molded over what was written. I got the feel that it's someone who wants to shout the truth of there heart. Yet stays not so much silent, just doesn't express it to the full extent that they want to in fear of being criticized. Unable to get over such a feeling hurts, bottling up an emotion, or idea from others, and one self.

Now I may be totally off base there. Ether way I love this poem.

Ohhh Thank you so much Charles :) Your interpretation matches the original intent of the poem.. 1've been weeping like a baby with face thrust in the pillow without any clue from where all this sadness is welling up and you used the perfect phrase "bottling up an emotion" for that miserable situation.. yes, correct, i had written this in that kind of mood.

Thank you so much for spot on interpretation, It is amazing.. you sort of told me just now what i was thinking :)

I love the social symbolism of it! I interpret it as the person in the beginning feeling less cared about by the mighty and popular lion, with all his pride. People feel inferior and self concious. I really liked how you said that people lower their voices for the truth and mentioned societal status. It is the truth that people don't speak up for the truth because of themselves or others. I just loved this poem, especially the part where you said that we try to prove facts to the world but can't to our own hearts! That was so thought provoking and interesting! ANOTHER GREAT POEM!! YOu are so amazing! :)
