I can’t sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I see the images of the monsters that haunt my every living, breathing moment. I can’t sleep. If I do, they’ll come. The monsters will come.

They watch, never losing sight of me. I turn a corner and they’re there, watching me…

I can’t sleep, for the moment I drift off to the black world of dreams, their claws will pierce my heart and end me.

I can’t sleep. Won’t sleep. I don’t care how great my longing to sink into the pillowy abyss, I’ll push it aside and continue to keep a steady watch.

It’s getting late now. The moon is high and my eyelids heavy. I lust for a bed to lay my head upon and a blanket to shield myself from the nightmares. I want to sleep. It hurts to stay awake now. It won’t hurt to just close my eyes for a minute…

Oh no! My eyes fly open and I jump up from the floor I was scrawled upon. They’re coming! The monsters are coming. They’re pounding on my door, screaming out my name. I’m scared. I want my mommy. Where’s Mommy? That’s right. The monsters took her away. Where’s Daddy? Daddy left and made Mommy cry. That’s when Mommy started to bleed and the monsters took her away.

Now the monsters are back for me. They want to look at me. They try to tell me that they want to help, but I won’t believe them. They say they have my mommy, they say that she’s all right, but I know they’re lying.

I hear them now, trying to break through the doors to get to me, yelling out my name. I run out to the window and climb out to the fire escape, ignoring their loud cries.

I want it all to end, I just want to stop crying. I want to go to sleep.

I run up to the roof as I hear them crash into my room with their needles to put me to sleep. I run to the edge, hearing them coming up after me. They’re not going to get me.

I push off the edge and for what felt like an eternity, I hover in the air before I plummet to the ground like a rock. I fall twenty stories before I hit the ground with a sickening splat, my body scrawled at an awkward angle and my organs spread out on the sidewalk. I can sleep forever now…

I can sleep forever now. The monsters can’t get me. I never have to wake up to the nightmare. The monsters can’t get me. I don’t have to watch mommy bleed anymore. The monsters can’t get me. I’m with Mommy now. The monsters can’t get me…
