I write this article out of nostalgia for the good old days in Essikado as a little boy partaking in Sekondi's "Yesu As)r." "Yesu As)r" is the Fante translation for "Jesus has risen" which is an indigenous easter festival unique to the people of Sekondi in Ghana. It is celebrated on the eve of easter sunday through a carnival procession in streets of Sekondi. This outdoor event has been incorporated in the traditions of Sekondi in recent years.
Moreover, this indigenous easter festival has seen ceremonial branding from corporate institutions in the twin-city of Ghana. Hence, expanding the scope of the celebration in order to make it the leading brand in easter festivities in Ghana and beyond. Also, we all know of the Kwahu Easter Festival as the biggest easter festival in Ghana. But what is Kwahu Easter Festival to the people of Sekondi and its environs? It is like Homowo to the people of Winneba! However, we would continue to make "Yesu As)r" the preserve of Sekondi and give it international value!
Therefore, I encourage the people of Sekondi and beyond to partake in the 2015 "Yesu As)r" which is about to start in some 24 hours! We can at least be present in central Sekondi at Komfo Ase to view and admire this joyous celebration. The "Yesu As)r" made in Sekondi is founded on religious celebration to praise the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Saviour of the world! So we have to eliminate immorality from "Yesu As)r" to protect its sanctity! #IRepSekondi'sYesuAs)r
