The big day - March 8th 2008
The day before leaving the UK I relentlessly went through my suitcase, at least ten times if not more, just double checking that I’d packed everything. I’m usually the laid back type, but that day I was extremely nervous, I couldn’t stop thinking about what might happen.
We’d talked about it for ages, joked about it more than not but now it was happening and I was feeling slightly overwhelmed. Everything had been built up to that moment of finally meeting Rose!
My suitcase was now ready and waiting for my taxi which would arrive in the morning to take me to the airport but I was too excited to sleep so I ended up on the sofa watching reruns of a TV show called Spaced (a British sitcom). Not to mention I had my laptop open in front of me so that I could send what would be my last email to my soon to be roommate.
By morning I was still buzzing with excitement! My taxi was late – or maybe I was early, but once I got to the Airport, everything went smoothly. I had a seat by the window and the view was amazing. It wasn’t until I was just over half way through the flight that I started to feel my sleepless night taking its toll on me.
Personally I blame the book that I was reading. It was one that my nan had got me as a farewell present, one from a charity shop and some of the pages had gotten wet at some point and now had stuck together in clumps. (I can’t even remember the title of it!)
Anyway, I ended up listening to my Ipod and before I knew it I was drifting off into the land of nod! When I woke up I opened my eyes to find an empty cabin. Then I noticed the flight attendant standing beside me, she told me we’d landed and I was free to leave the plane.
Grabbing my luggage I headed out. Ok, actually I was escorted out, off the plane and toward the exit where I hoped Rose would still be waiting. I was so embarrassed to be late after being so impatient the night before, but as soon as I saw her waving that ‘Gypsy’ sign at me, I instantly felt that excitement return!
