The Old man tucks into his Meals on Wheels
accompanied only by empty envelopes
for help the Aged Appeals
The only things delivered
while he shivers in the cold
Is this the price you pay for being old
He bends to turn the fire on
but not for long
in case another Bill is born
Then he settles back to dream
of joining in his family sing a christmas song
wondering what the Hell he did wrong
Out in the Gutter another family suffer
From their bed and breakfast home
they were thrown .
The Social lost their claim and refused to take the blame
' Tut'," Homeless,what again
whats ya Number not ya name"
Down some dark deserted street
the undesired meet
Societies incomplete, loan their bodies so they can eat
Jobless..abused
or for reasons unknown
They stand togeather but still remain alone
on her knees the Single Mum pleads
screaming "why God..why God me ?"
all the toys under the plastic tree just got banned by the EUC
Praise be praise be
for Christmas Reality
Praise the Lord and his greedy hoard that thrive upon technicality
In the crowded surrounds
of the shopping malls and towns
the joy of Christmas hymns can be found
Behind the ribbons and the wrappers
speakers and clappers
Enterprise inititative converts to pounds
Beneath the spire the saintly choir
reherse psalms of lyrical verse.
Neatly trimmed and bellowing in holy vocal bursts
HALLELUIA ..HALLELUIA To the birth of a new born King
Who tried to teach instead of preach
and died because of sin
The worship of a God
who lets his only Son hang on a cross
fills my eyes with unforgivable grief
Our existence may be at a loss
I really couldn't give a toss
I still stoke the fire of my disbelief
Now Charity was concieved by vanity
Designed to cure ones guilt
I've got loads here take my clothes
I'm sure your pride wont wilt
Salvation,Restoration for the needy they debate
for each good deed is a merrit
to pass through Heavens Gate
Its absolutely crazy this charade and escapade
A ridiculous and pointless
exercisein pain
In the distorted reflection of a ball on a string
I become consumed cocooned
and start watching from within
I see faces that bare active traces
of misery and gloom
Their financial worry carving the tomb
They bridge all the rifts
settle tiffs
and open gifts
and with their heads burried in their debt
they drink to forget
that they are all caught up in the same conventional net.
