So its not finished yet but here it is so far

“But how will I know it’s her?” I asked

“You’ll know when it’s time Thane.” Then the voice was gone.

Oh, that’s helpful. There’s only, what, six billion humans on this Earth! Oh, and an apocalypse going on. Sure no trouble at all, Thane, no trouble at all. I though sarcastically, which is unusual for an angel to experience human emotions let alone express them. Then again I guess that’s what you get for mingling with humans for hundreds of years. I was just so frustrated with these one word answers I kept getting lately and all these bullshit answers like ‘You’ll know’ and ‘Trust yourself’, oh and my favourite ‘Trust me you’ll know’. I can get better answers off of a bloody fortune cookie! How the hell am I supposed to do that, I have no idea what she looks like, no clue where she is, no idea how to find her, or if she’s even on earth yet! No I just have to keep flying about and hope I get lucky, hope she falls from the sky or something. I hate freaking prophets and oracles.

Then all of a sudden I felt it, it was like pure celestial power. Even though it felt as though I had just been hit with a baseball bat, it was still beautiful, in a weird painful kind of way. That’s it, it’s her! It has to be her! It has to! After all what else could it be? I thought to myself. I flew to where I could feel the most power, which hopefully will be where she is, the one to save us all and end the apocalypse. Poor thing, such a heavy burden she must carry, she quiet literally has the weight of the world on her shoulders.

When I found her, she was asleep on the floor of the forest which was not there twenty minutes ago, that’s for sure. She was so young, her raven black hair with flakes of red at the end, porcelain skin and petite figure. It looked as though she was maybe eighteen at most. Her eyes started to slowly flicker open as the breeze played with her hair, she had beautiful emerald coloured eyes. She looked down at herself, like she was confused, and pulled at her black shirt. It was almost like she was studying herself, confused as to why she looked this way. Then seeming to realise that I was stood in front of her, she sat up and flicked her eyes towards me. And as if things weren’t strange enough as it was, her words were even stranger.

“Why the hell am I here? And what the hell is going on!? Who the hell are you!? Wait... Who am I?”

Chapter I

“Why don’t I know who I am?” I asked scared and confused. Three emotions flickered across his face as I spoke; shock, confusion and uncertainty. Then right back to confusion again. Great seems like he hasn’t got a clue what’s going on either.

“You don’t know who you are?” he asked, his voice sent shivers down my spine. It was almost like his voice was sweet with a hint of danger.

“If I did, do you really think I’d be asking you?” I snapped, wow I’m bitch.

“I’m sorry but I don’t know who you are,” He said softly.

“Fine then, if you can’t tell me who I am can you tell me who you are? Why I’m here? Why you’re here? What the hell is going on? Or why I can’t remember anything?” I questioned, my voice rising with each word and my tone becoming more and more hysteric. The man looked away from my eyes and stared in shock at something near my hand. What the hell is he staring at? Then I realised, there were blue flames exploding from the palms of my hands. I screamed and started flailing my arms about as more and more flames exploded from my palms, growing larger and more violent.

“Shut up and stay calm! The flames will burn out if you just calm down!” The man ordered, “Trust me?” he added softly obviously seeing that screaming at me was not the best way to calm me down, idiot. I closed my eyes and eventually calmed myself, no thanks to that idiot standing right in front of me. It was then that I realised the fire didn’t burn me, it almost tickled actually. I opened my eyes and saw the last of the flames flicker and die, they were actually one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, I think. The man offered me his hand and just as I reluctantly took it, a spark of something hit me. Images suddenly flashed through my head, battles, wars, orders, death, hundreds and thousands of years of history flashing through my head, and I felt such a strong feeling of obedience. These weren’t just images, they were memories. This man, Thane, they were his memories I was seeing. Wait these people in his memories had wings. Holy crap, these people were freaking angels, which makes Thane a....
‘An angel? Yes he is. He was sent here to find you and protect you. He also has to serve you as well, which I personally think is hilarious!’ the voice laughed and disappeared. Jesus, this is one fucking messed up day, and with that I passed out.
I woke up in a motel and I could tell Thane was worried. It was practically radiating and filling the room, you could almost choke on it.

“Are you okay? I’m so sorry, I have no idea what happened and you were out cold for a couple of days! I didn’t know what to do! Are you okay?” He asked frantically.

“I’m fine, well as fine as could be for a girl who just had flames jutting out of her hands, meeting an angel and listening to some creepy voice in her head. Yeah that’s right I know what you are, Thane. How’s God these days? Still hanging out on clouds?” I said pointedly. He seemed to ignore my catty remarks. I’m guessing I don’t much like God and all that.

“Oh, interesting. I assumed as much. Anyway, we need to name you,” Thane said matter-of-factly. He is really starting to get on my nerves.

“Like what? Lucy or Kate? Bethany or Hope? Lilly or Britney? There are thousands of names and you want me to just pick one? Seriously?” I replied in disbelief. Jeez, the nerve on him.

“Well, what names appeals to you the most?” He asked casually.

“I don’t know! I’m still kind of dealing with the whole angels are real, fire spitting out of my hands and all that crap, okay?” I was really getting pissed now, I though angels would be a little more sensitive, I guess not.

“There is also an apocalypse happening as well and all those creatures your kind makes movies out of, they’re all real. So we must be careful,” He stated.

“Well don’t hold back or anything!” I snapped back sarcastically.

“Oh, yes. Sorry how inconsiderate of me, your still very fragile right now. I am truly sorry. How about you watch some television?” He said with a smile. I agreed, turned on the TV and flicked through the channels till I found a show with kids singing ‘Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day!’. I hated it when kids sung that to me. Then I remembered my name.
“That’s it! I remember my name!” I shouted joyously.

“What is it?” Thane asked.

“Rayne but everyone called me Ray for short. I used to get teased about it when I was little!” I was so happy to remember my name again. Well there’s one piece of the puzzled done.

“Such a lovely name, Rayne” He complimented me with a smile. He had a sweet smile, but I couldn’t tell if it was true or fake.

“I am so glad you remember your name, Rain. It’s so beautiful.”

Chapter II

“Rayne, get behind me!” Thane ordered as he drew a beautiful silver stake from his trench coat. Wait he had that thing in his coat the whole time? Where the hell did he put it?

“Oh, calm down will you? I’m not here to hurt her,” The stranger said exasperated. Damn, he is so hot. Dark brown hair, slightly tanned and you could just see a little of his chest thanks to the marvellously half unbuttoned black shirt. Damn!

“Who are you?” barked Thane.

“My name is Seth and I’m here because of her. She called me and I came. It’s as simple as that.”

“Wait, what?! I don’t even know you, so why would I call you? And I don’t even have a phone!”

“It was telepathically. You probably didn’t even know you were doing it or that you still are. I am your...Your Opekun or Guardian if you will. I guess you could probably even say a Servant but I prefer Guardian,” He stated matter-of-factly. I am so confused. He’s my servant? I’m not complaining but what the hell is going on and what did he mean ‘Telepathically’. I am not telepathic! Am I?

“You’re my servant? And I’m telepathic?” I asked confused.

“It’s Guardian. And you’re the Zhivotvoryashchego or Giver of Life in English. How would you put this, Angel?” He asked Thane.

“Well first of all I’d explain it in English not Russian,” Thane said pointedly at Seth. He then turned to face me and smiled reassuringly. At least I know what language Seth is speaking now.

“Rayne, we all have a part to play in this apocalypse, some more than others. You are one of those who play a rather large part I’m afraid. You are, as Seth said, the Zhivotvoryashchego or quite simply the Giver of Life.” –Obviously seeing the dumbstruck look on my face he continued to explain- “You have the power to control the elements, much like a Witch or Ancient can and how you did accidentally when we first met, and you can summon anything you want, spirits, energy, celestial beings, anything. You can also shape shift and much more. However you can also lose yourself or even die if you use your power too much in one hit, you could think of it as using up a battery in a way but yours can recharge. That’s where Seth comes into the picture. He also has certain powers or abilities such as healing, control over one element, telepathy and mind control, I also believe he has the ability to take your pain so that you feel nothing and he feels the pain for you.” –He looked and Seth who nodded in agreement- “His job is to protect you and make sure you don’t go using your power all at once or go ‘Dark side’ as the humans put it. Which is basically when you start to lose control of yourself and could potentially destroy the entire planet but I’m sure Seth will make sure that never happens. Also on the topic of you and him, the two of you are soul bound or personal?nymi in Russian. This is why he has the abilities that he does and you may also use his power or energy when yours is low. I know this must sound very complicated and confusing but I’m sure you will get the hang of it.” He said with a smile. Yeah, like that helps.

Thane opened his mouth as if to say more but was quickly cut off by Seth, “Yeah, so have you started to remember anything more than just your name?”

“No, not yet but it’s only been a couple of days so...” I replied glumly.

“Wait, Seth you need to tell her. She needs to know,” Thane interrupted.

“But if we wait she may remember on her own. She’s been through enough today already, there’s a lot to process without all this. Just give her a few days. Then I’ll tell her if she hasn’t remembered it, please?” Seth pleaded.

“Tell me what? What is it?” I asked Seth. But Thane answered before he could, “Rayne, he’s a vampire.”

“Why?! Why did you tell her? You just couldn’t wait could you?” Seth growled as he moved closer to Thane, poised to attack him at any moment. Thane drew his stake once again and the look on his face was stone cold. I could see how this would end, Seth would lunge forward and Thane would catch him midair and drive the stake right through Seth’s heart. I couldn’t let it happen. I closed my eyes as the fear and anger built up inside me and exploded from my core, in the form of an invisible wave, sending them both hurtling across the room. A second later I opened my eyes to see them both staring at me in shock. I looked down at my hands which I had unintentionally thrusted forwards, directing the wave and sending both of them to the other side of the room.

“Did I just do that?” I continued to stare at my hands in wonder. Seth rushed to my side checking if I was okay. Am I? Am I really okay? I mean I just sent two full grown “men” flying across the room with a simple hand gesture, can I really be okay? But that was kind of badass. Regardless I told him I was fine, just a little tired, to which he raced to get me a chair and sat me down as though I were going to pass out at any second. It was sweet really but at the same time quiet annoying.

“I hope you’re happy,” Seth muttered to Thane after attending to me.

“She needed to know,” Thane truly believed what he was saying.

“She probably thinks I’m a monster now thanks to you,” Seth growled, glaring at Thane.

“That is what you are, a monster, an abomination” Thane said in a dangerous sounding tone.

“Excuse me, you’re the monster here! How many have you killed in your time?” Seth retaliated. You could see his anger rising with every passing second and feel the tension thick in the air.

“Hey! Quit it or I’ll send you guys flying across the room again, okay? I don’t think either of you are monsters. And I’d like to talk to Seth. Alone,” I added. I had a lot of questions for Seth and I had a feeling Thane would want to add his opinion too.  Thane looked between us both and left the room. “That’s what I thought!”

“I understand if you don’t want me with you, I wouldn’t blame you,” Seth looked at the ground, his face full of sadness. I walked over and raised his face so I could see into his eyes. What beautiful hazel eyes he has.

“That’s not what I was going to say at all. I was going to ask how you came to be my Guardian,” I replied with a smile. He smiled and seemed to turn back to the carefree guy I had met earlier.

“I’d hate to ruin the surprise for you,” He gave me a devilish smile. “I promise I will always be here for you and always protect you and care for you. Now, you’ve a big day and you need to rest, so come on its time to go to bed.”

“No, I’m not tired” Which was a complete lie, I was so tired for some reason. I went to take a step back but my leg collapsed and I was headed straight for the ground. Seth caught me however and carried me to my bed, laid me down and ordered me to sleep.

“Oh, and feel free to dream about me. I know you find me irresistible.” –He winked at me- “Nah, I’m just kidding, goodnight and sweet dreams, Rayne,” With that he left me to sleep.

I dreamed of an old fashioned ball, girls wearing beautiful gowns dancing with handsome men, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and footmen carrying silver trays lined with glasses of wine and whiskey. Everyone hidden behind intricate and beautifully hand painted masks. And me, dolled up in a tight purple gown, I was beautiful. I grew bored with the small talk and gossiping among the other girls and walked out onto the balcony overlooking the most beautiful garden. A boy taps me on the shoulder and asks to dance, I don’t know why I agreed but we dance for most of the night and talked of adventure and excitement. When we come to a stop he keeps a hold of my hand and he removes his mask. It’s Seth! In turn, I shyly remove my mask. He smiles and puts his jacket around me.

“Allow me to properly introduce myself, I am Seth Hayes” He bows and asks my name.

I reply, “I am Rayne Souviere,” And Curtsey.

“Rayne, I have truly never me a girl like you” He steps forward, “You are simply amazing, you talk of adventure rather than gowns, you speak what you think not what you are told to, and you’re the only girl I have ever met who has such a fiery nature and cares not for social protocol. You are a mystery,” I blush which makes him laugh.

“Why sir, anyone would think you’re trying to court me,” I joke. He moves closer so our faces are only an inch or two apart.

“Perhaps I am,” He moves in and presses his lips against mine, winding one hand around my waist the other gently holding my face as mine are to his.

Chapter III

I woke up to the smell of freshly cooked bread and fresh fruit.

“Good morning, sleepy head! Have a good sleep?” asked Seth with a heart breaking smile.
“Do you remember anything?” Thane questioned. Seth shot him a disgusted look.
“She just woke up, lay off will you? Anyways, did you have a good sleep? And toast or fruit?” He asked with yet another heartbreaking smile. He is gorgeous!
“I had a weird dream and you were in it...” I remembered the kiss. “Uh, fruit please.” Was my dream real? It felt real. No, it couldn’t be, that was like 500 years ago or something, I couldn’t have been there. It was just a dream, nothing more. But that kiss.... Seth’s eyes lit up.
“What was your dream about?” he asked eagerly. Thane said he had to go check something outside and left. Once he left I told Seth all about my dream, well all apart from the kiss. Just in case it was only a dream.
“Rayne, I am very happy to say that that was the first day we met!” He was so happy and so was I, I finally remember something! “Can you remember what happened just before the ball ended?” Yes! I think I do!
“Umm, well I think so,” I replied a little embarrassed.
“Okay, well what do you remember?” He seems so excited.
“Ha! Umm, yeah okay. So we were outside, obviously, and we had just finished dancing and you held my hand and introduced yourself then bowed. I introduced myself and curtseyed. Then you were saying how amazing I was and all of that and then I made a joke about your courting me. You umm, moved closer so our faces were maybe an inch away and said perhaps I am. A-and you leaned in a little and kissed me for the first time,” I was practically scarlet red by the time I had finished. Seth was smiling so much I thought he’d burst. Slowly moving closer he said, “And after that I promised I would never leave you, even death itself couldn’t keep us apart. I told you that I love you and I’d love you till the end of time. Because the first time we met I knew that you were the only one for me.” By now we were standing just like we were the first time we met, only an inch away. Just like on that night our lips touched, he held me the same way. Slowly the passion began to burn, the kiss grew more and more intense, and his hands sliding down my back to the edge of my top. I ran my hands over his chest and undoing a few of his buttons. He pushed us against the wall while his hand slid up the back of my top.
We heard the door open and snapped out of our crazed mood, to some extent, and tidied ourselves up before Thane reached us. We all sat in silence while we ate our breakfast.
“Seth? If that dream was real then that was 500 years ago,” I had suddenly realised.
“Yes it was, it was the year 1501, I was nineteen and you had just turned eighteen a week ago,” Seth stated.
“So I’m like 518 years old?” Damn, I look good for my age.
“Umm, no, not exactly. Rayne, you are more like 2000 years old” Seth said hesitantly.
“SAY WHAT!!” I screamed.
“Well you’ve been around since at least 1 A.D.” Seth said hesitantly, “You are born, you live, you die and then you start all over again, except usually you remember everything. The year we met you had chosen to live as a vampire because you hated how easily you burnt in the sun as a human. You were so pale to begin with anyways and you thought it would be fun. That’s also how I became a vampire. Rayne was the one who bit me.” Seth looked into my eyes to see my reaction.

“I bit you?” So it was me, my fault he was a vampire.

“I asked you to when you told me what you were. It’s kind of hard to love you for the rest of our lives when it was pretty clear that one of us was going to live a lot longer than the other, haha!” He laughed. How could he just laugh that off?

“How can you just sit there and laugh? Becoming a vampire is no laughing matter!” Thane shouted.

“Well we were already bound together. I was her Guardian before I became a vampire and she could turn me back at any time she wanted. She was alone! There were no other vampires around at the time so I asked her to turn me! I didn’t want her to be alone...”

“There were plenty of vampires in the 1500’s,”

“They left! They were terrified of her! Her power far exceeded their own and that terrified them! So they left in fear of accidentally offending her or getting into a turf war, okay?”

I remember this! They all fell to their knees and begged for mercy... I just wanted to have fun and have people who understood me. Humans never understood how I felt, nor werewolves or spirit animals... So I thought that maybe vampires would, but I guess I was wrong...

“That’s ridiculous! Why would she care about those vile and repulsive creatures?” Thane shouted.

“Because I was completely alone! No-one cared about how I really felt! They just did whatever I told them to do because I was a part of a rich family or that I was so powerful I could snap them in half in a blink of an eye! No-one cared! No-one listened to what I really had to say! I was surrounded by hundreds and cared for by none! I have lived for thousands of years and hated every one of them! You could never imagine how lonely I was until I finally found Seth! He gave up everything for me; he gave up his soul so I wouldn’t have to wander this God forsaken planet alone! He is the only one who cares about me, Rayne! Not some Giver of life or whatever, me! So don’t go and tell him he was stupid or foolish, I was the one who bit him, okay?” By this time I was completely in tears and had buried myself into Seth’s shoulder. He held me tight, stoking my hair and slowly rocking from side to side.

“I’m sorry. I had no idea how hard it was for you” At least he apologised.

“I think I’ll take Rayne outside, I’m sure being cooped up in here for a few days isn’t doing her much good. Come on Rayne, you should see how much has changed since last time you were here” Seth said with a smile as he escorted me through the door.

Chapter IV

Wow, society has really changed since I was last here. Well at least I think it has, but for all I know I could have been here last week. Ugh, I hate not remembering. What if people are out there right now looking for me?

“Hey, are you okay there?” I snapped out of my own little world.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just wish I could remember... Well remember everything I guess. It’s just so frustrating not knowing who you are,” I sighed. We had been walking around the city for hours, watching the people scurrying along to their jobs or rushing to meet their friends for lunch.

“Hey, wait! It’s daytime! Shouldn’t you be bursting into flames or something?” I had just realised that I had been walking around the city in the middle of the day with a vampire.

“Yeah, if I was a normal vampire then I should be but because we’re soul bound and I’m your Guardian, I can walk around in the day otherwise what would be the point in having a Guardian who can only protect you when the suns down,” he laughed at me like I was an idiot for not thinking about the fact that he’s my guardian.
“Well sorry for being concerned about your health” I snapped. For a guy who’s supposed to be madly in love with me he can be a bit of jerk.
“Right, sorry. It just seemed pretty obvious. Then again you have lost pretty much all of your memories so I should’ve realised that you had no idea of what the bond entails,” He shot me a gorgeous smile and continued to drag me around the city until we found a rather expensive looking restaurant.

“Let’s eat here! The menu looks great and they have your favourite!” He practically ran up to the counter and got us a table on the far side next to a window. But I’ll be damned if I could see where this so called menu was.

“So where’s the menu,” I asked eagerly.

“Oh, we don’t need one! I already ordered for us,” He smiled.

“What? But I didn’t even see the menu or anything!” How rude!

“Yeah, but you always order the same thing so it’s fine” Again with that smile.

“Fine. So what did you get me?” I asked angrily. Just then the waitress placed a huge bowl full of Spaghetti Bolognese in front of me along with two forks.
“Enjoy!” She smiled and left us to stare at this massive bowl of pasta.

“Really? This is what I always order?” I was rather disappointed with myself.

“Yep! Why? What’s wrong?”

“Well, I figured that growing up in a rich family, I would have had more... elaborate tastes?”

“Yeah, I used to think that too but you said you liked the simple things better and you hated all of those fancy foods that you can never pronounce” He laughed, obviously remembering the conversation.

“Well, I guess that makes sense,” Turns out I’m not as posh as I thought I was. We somehow managed to devour the entire dish and two lots of the garlic and herb foccacias.

“Wait, if you’re a vampire then how come you can eat food? Shouldn’t you be drinking blood or something?” I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to realise that.

Again as your Guardian I need to be able to live off of more than just blood. Otherwise I would be pretty useless. Plus it depends on whose blood it is that I’m drinking, different blood has different effects. If I were to drink a human’s blood then there isn’t much change, drink a vampires and it tastes really weird and kind of gross but I get their abilities. If I drink a werewolf’s blood then I get really sick and I’m useless for a few minutes until my body fights it off or whatever,” he was  making the cutest facial expressions while he was explaining all this to me, that was until the waitress showed up.

"So is that all for today, or would you like me to get you the drinks menu?" She asked flirtatiously.

"Yeah, drinks menu would be great I guess?" Seth replied with his dashing smile. I can't believe she just flirted with him while I was sitting here! It was like I never existed. And he was practically flirting back and smiling that cute little smile... What the hell!

He smiled at me like he was completely innocent. That was when I noticed it, the ring on his right hand. It was a gold ring that I had never seen before, at least not on him. He always wore a silver and black ring that I gave him. I don't think it's him. And he was way too excited about the blood thing.

"Here are your menus" The waitress had reappeared and as flirty as ever.

"Why thank you, you’re very sweet" He laughed flirtatiously and so did the waitress.

Okay, this is definitely not my Seth. I need to get out of here! Thane! He can help me, I need to find him!

"I just need to go to bathroom, I'll just be a few minutes." I got up and left. Seth barely even noticed me leave. I made a quick escape and went out unnoticed, from there I ran back towards the hotel mentally calling out for Seth, my Seth. I was almost at the hotel when a figure appeared in front of me.

"And where do you think you’re going?" It was the other Seth. "You know, it was so easy to trick you into thinking I was your precious little Guardian. You are so stupid and naive. Don’t worry though it will all be over soon."  He started to move closer and closer.

Come on Rayne! If there was ever a time for you to freak out and use your powers, now would be the time! Come on! Get scared or mad and flame out or something! Then finally, the palms of my hands started to burn up, as did the rest of my body, until the blue flames engulfed my entire body.

"Impressive. But that won’t be enough to stop me, princess" He snickered. It was like something inside me was triggered. Suddenly the flames darkened in colour and grew with intense ferocity.

"Fine then lets crank up the heat" It was like it wasn’t even me speaking. My fear was replaced by anger and hatred, it felt as though I was possessed or something. The flames rushed forward but he easily dodged them.

"Well, well, well. Looks like someone’s got quite the temper. But not for long, I’m sad to say. She won’t let you live though, can't have you ruining her plans." He lunged towards me and I instinctively threw my hands up. The flames followed my hands and created a shield of sorts which stopped his attack. He retreated to his original distance with bewildered face.

"What? Are you afraid of a little fire?" I Laughed. I thrust my hands forward and jets of fire spurted out towards the imposter. The flames caught his shoulder and burnt his sleeve.

"Rayne!"  Familiar voice shouted my name, turned to see whose voice it was. Thane! My flames returned to their original colour and retreated back to the palms of my hands.

"I would love to stay and chat but I have better things to do than take on an angel. So my dear, I bid you adieu." The imposter vanished. I started to feel weak and dizzy and the flames extinguished themselves. My vision became blurry and I lost my balance before I lost consciousness.

Chapter V

I know it’s only been a day but all I can think about is getting back to Rayne. What if he does something to her? I never should have gone hunting while she was so fragile. Damn it Seth! How could you have been so stupid? Maybe I can melt the chains then drain the guard. That might work! But only if I have enough strength and power to summon enough fire so that I can melt the chains. She is smart though, getting her Guardian to drain me of my blood to the point where I am practically useless. Wait! The ring that Rayne gave me! I can use the power that she stored in it to summon enough fire and break free! God I love that girl, always having a back up energy source just in case. I drew the energy from the ring and used it to melt the chains. I collapsed onto the floor and groaned in pain but I didn’t have any time to waste, the guard was opening my cell door. I rushed over and hid behind the door, as he came in and looked around the cell I grabbed him from behind and sank my teeth into his neck. The warm blood rushed into my mouth and as I drank I felt my strength slowly return. Once I was finished, I dropped his lifeless body and ran for the exit. There were no more guards, just him. I guess that they didn’t expect me to have a back up energy supply or that I would manage to break the chains.

I managed to find my way to the streets and the sun was setting, I didn’t have much time left to find her and every minute I waste is one closer to her death. I was scouting the streets when I felt this feeling of great panic and distress, Rayne was in trouble! I use the emotional link to help locate her when all of a sudden it was gone, there was nothing. Then I felt this burst of anger and hatred. No! She switched. I have to find her now before she is completely lost it. I can’t let this turn out like it did in Pompeii. I ran as fast as I could and prayed that I would get to her in time.

“And where do you think you’re going, big brother?”

I came to a dead halt, In front of me stood a perfect copy of myself.

“Chase.” Of course my little brother had stolen my form and impersonated me, again.

“So you do remember my name, big brother”

“It’s hard to forget when you’ve been stalking us for the past 500 years.”

“Well if our dear Rayne had bonded with me then none of this would have had to happen!”

“She didn’t want to ruin your life! You were so young and innocent and pure! She couldn’t bring herself to take that from you!”

Chapter VI

Back in 1501, the night of the ball, both I and Chase had started to fall in love with the mysterious Rayne Souverie. We had seen her at other functions looking as bored as we felt. She was constantly asked to dance by noblemen who were more like noble boys, and she always accepted, though it seemed more like she did it out of pity and boredom than anything else. Both Chase and I were too afraid to talk to her while she was in a crowd, we had been brought into the nobility when mother had remarried and had not grown up in such a society. Not that we weren’t civilised or anything, we had been brought up knowing the do’s and dont’s just like the nobles had but we had not been born into the society and did not know a single face at any of the functions.
