Writing my memories of my history, another tale comes to play.

About spaghetti growing on trees, And the time I rued the day.

Now if you’ve ever lived in the west, Out in Oklahoma, Texas land.

You know of the mighty mesquite, There’s millions among their stand.

A knowing father told his daughters, of the dangling pods of beans.

He told them they were spaghetti, just they were still a little green.

Now the minds of six year olds are a wonder, As you fill them with so much awe.

The teachings of mom are the greatest! But nothing compared to pa!

Her teachings include sewing, cooking and all whatnot.

But this is the teaching of a father, and all the trouble that it brought.

Once out in Wichita Falls, A memory from the tomes of my past.

A small chain of events, I’ve already lined out the cast.

Now after a hard day at the office, A room with no A.C. vents.

My pants were ladened in sweat. My shirt felt like a tent.

My thoughts were of a cold tea, Maybe "pop a top" of my choice.

That’s before my wife met me in the drive, Before I heard the fury in her voice.

It seems my darling daughters had picked some spaghetti from the mesquites.

Wanted to put them to boil, For daddy, a succulent treat.

Now the stench filled the kitchen, The beans have no flavor of the wood.

The water boiled from the beans, that’s the last of all that’s good.

Now my "honey do" for the weekend was clear, No lounging outside for me.

First there was the stench in the kitchen, Then the back yard was to be free of mesquite.

Now I look forward to seeing my lineage, My daughters have produced through the years,

I thank the Lord they are boys, Of grandma’s teachings I have no fear.

I teach them of the spaghetti, And as this verse draws to a close.

As they gain the words of my teachings, They have no knowledge of stoves.
