The voice in Kade's head was tormenting him with thoughts of what might happen if he leaped into the portal.

What if it's dangerous? I know it's dangerous. I bet you'll die. Your story will end, the pages of your book will be torn to shreds, and nothing will remain. Your life of legends and tales will halt. Nobody will remember. You'll be a figment of everyone's imagination that everyone doubts. Do you really think they'll remember you? Those people back home? They were happy when you left. They smiled. I saw them. They cheered when you were gone and would have a large celebration with no remorse if anything were to happen to you.

Hell, you've made my life a living nightmare. Everything terrifies me now. You've made me doubt everything. It's just now that I'm realizing that the only thing I should be doubting is you."

You aren't really going through, are you?

"Oh, I am. And you know what? My mom always told my brothers and I that we could all shine bright like stars. We all can do whatever the hell we want, and no matter the circumstance, she'd always love us."

Don't leave me. Please, I'll do anyth-

The voice was sad for once, but Kade didn't care. He ignored the voice and went through the portal, getting ready to shine brighter than he ever was able to before.
