Dad,
You never told me off when I used nail-polish on the cat.
I want to thank you for that.
And for the time you didn’t shout when I dyed my hair green,
Or used shampoo to clean the T.V. screen.
Your silence was pretty cool, to be fair,
I never had to listen to Elvis or pretend you suited his hair.
There never was an overprotective tone,
That threatened to maim my dates – groan.
I never had to waste money on crappy cards,
I spent the money wisely – regards
Parents Evenings were always Parent Evenings,
(One less voice to sigh at my constant day-dreaming)
You never grounded me for calling you names,
That became a really great game.
Thanks for not being the grumpy voice waking me up,
And thanks for not giving me overbearingly tight hugs.
Thanks for not making me hate you, love you, hate you, then love you again in the same day,
Thanks for never once being in my way,
Dad.

Thanks for being a
Word
I only heard.
