Heart thumps under brittle cage,
Ears filled with current’s rage,
Exhilaration, ocean wind on my face,
Torrent of blue and white wash lace,

Board cuts wave with ostensible ease
Smooth and agile and eager to please
Like my chariot, riding into conquest
I will have triumph in my contest.

Wave decelerates, heart race dropping,
Balance and focus as the rush is stopping.
Sense of elation, light head, shaking hand,
As I lie, breathless, in the sand.
